OT--Remington 141

Post by Thunder50 »

Went to Oklahoma to work and just had to go to the Tulsa show. Lots of stuff that was overpriced (except for the Ruger #3 in 44mag--$500---must resist!!). Bought a bit of ammo and a few other things. Tempted on many other things, but didn't have any luck trying to sell my 1885 Win, so no $$ to get what I wanted to get.
Trying to get down a crummy dirt road on Monday and almost got stuck(Raining big time), but it was the last location I needed to go to, so I went to Gene Sears Supply to browse as sometimes they have something good, someone traded in. Almost left but went over to the shotgun section just to look and spied this Remington. Stock has dings and dents but bluing is in very good shape except for the loading gate area. Bore is pristine. Looks to have been carried some, shot a bit, but otherwise in a safe and other guns have bumped into it. Mr. Sears said the guy that traded it in that morning sometimes brings in some pretty good stuff (guy also traded in a Browning 525 in .410 ---$1,425 if I wanted it).

I know its not a lever, but going to be a companion to my 336A in 35Rem. This Remington 141 in 35Rem also is going to be a hoot to shoot.
Anyone have any information on these things and any loads theirs are partial to. By the barrel code, it was made in Oct. 48.

Yep, They are very neat guns. I HAD the below pictured gun but just sold it last week for 4 c-notes. I have an earlier Model 14 in 30 Remington (pictured below the 35)that is a tackdriver. Just load for it as you would any 35 Remington. I did not have mine long enough to work up a load so I only shot a few factory loads out of it.

The 14 and the 141 are very precision guns and have lots of precise parts that work together. When you take it down and pull the bolt out to clean etc., remember to push on the ejector when reinstalling or the parts won't "mesh up" in order to get everything back into the receiver.

I don't know how old you are but in shooting one of these guns, the barrel sights leave a lot to be desired for us middle aged dudes who have focusing problems. I found an original tang sight that fits on the back of the receiver that is factory drilled and tapped. (two little screws) Was not cheap ($125) but made all the difference in the world for shooting. Ken Bean of York, Pa. still has a couple left.-------------Sixgun

Both rifles are very nice

I have been resisting the urge for a couple years now to start collecting the Remington 14's and 141's !

Also been resisting the 721's and 722's !

But it's only a matter of time now as I recently inherited my grandfathers old Remington 722 in 222 REM with a period Weaver K10 on top .

My buddy likes model 14's and 141's also 721 and 722's . Last year he picked one up in 35 rem and took it deer hunting. He didn't shoot a dear but shot 2 coyotes. I ran across a model14 in 32 rem at the first of the year for $275 but had flat pockets. I decided I would like one in 25 Rem. I will own one someday they are just too mechanicaly cool not to have one.

Another regret from long ago. I had a .25 Remington that was a dream to shoot. It carried about like a Winchester 94 does.

Great old guns. This was my Grandfather's 141 in 30 Rem. I'm hoping to take it deer hunting one of these years.

Thats the great thing about living in the south , our deer bag limits are large enough and the seasons long enough that we are afforded the opportunity to hunt and kill with many different rifles over the course of a season !

You guys up north unless you hunt more then one state you are pretty well confined to a buck and maybe a doe or two a year !

Whereas here in Virginia it's two per day for the duration ! It's 36 whitetails and 6 Sika per year in Maryland . North Carolona I'm not sure about anymore but I think they have about a 7 deer yearly limit . And South Carolina unless something has changed since the last time I looked was wide open in the southeastern part of the state , I think it was NO LIMIT on bucks all season ! And last time I was in Alabama it was a buck a day and the folks I hunted with had large numbers of doe kill permits to be used during the season .

My usual outlook for the year is try as many unblooded rifles as I can before the end of the season ! And as far as the venison is concerned 90-95% of what I kill is donated to a local "Food Kitchen" for those that can use it !

Congrats! Nice classic rifle in a great caliber - hard to go wrong with that! I had one and sold it about 2 years ago... can't keep em all I guess... nice, light and fast handling rifle. The only thing that I didn't care for was the stock fit for me - I really had to get down on the stock to line the sights up - but I've got a pretty fat face...

6pt's daily bag limit is 2 as he is east of the Blueridge, it is 1-a-day here west of the Blueridge. However we have a 5 per year (all methods) limit and one can get tags for additional deer. I wish I could get out enough to ge the 1 (about all the wife and I will consume over a year).

Local has a 141 RIFLE in .35 Remington but I've forgotten the price.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Bear in mind the only time I purchase a license anylonger in VA is when I go to Chincoteague . But I thought the there were 6 tags now on a state license ? Three antlerless and three either tags !

Hobie incidently there is a thing on the Virginia DGIF website about a "Primitve Season" and it is open to comment ! Might wanna put in your thoughts on their !

www.dgif.virginia.gov

The guys in the Virginia Muzzle Loading Rifle Association are makinga push to geta two week season either in between the present bow and ML season or a week or two in january ! My own personal opinion on this is to make it in january as it won't affect anyone else and possibly add a couple more weeks for ME !!!!!

I am also in favor of two more issues they have in debate ! One is to increase the yearly bag limit by possibly a buck or two and the other is to increase the daily bag limit ! In MD at the moment you may feasibly take up to 12 whitetails a day in each of the 3 seasons . Now I realize the likelyhood of this is slim ! However I see no difference in a man in Virginia killing his 5 , 6 , 8 or 19 deer all in one day as opposed to taking them over several days . After all they have increased the bag limits to try and stabalize the herd in some areas . And that leads me to believe they want to give you every oppurtunity to lessen the population !
