Marlin "New Model 1895" has success !

Post by 6pt-sika »

Took this deer with my circa 1978 Marlin "New Model 1895" with and old Weaver K2.5 on top and shooting the Rancg Dog 460-350GC bullet cast from wheelweights and powered by 34 grains of XMP5744 and a CCI200 primer !

I was about 30 feet up a tree hwne I saw and shot him !

He was a paced off 57 yards from me and he ran 40-50 yards and piled up nicely !

This was the largest racked whitetail I have taken to date . And was in the top 2 or 3 bodywise !

By no means is he a Booner or anything like that but I'm still happy as he has an 18" spread . But the coolest thing is the fact that I shot him on our property within 200 yards of the back door !

And you might call this my office chair but 30 feet above where it is now !

On a kinda side note I pluked this one from the same treestand the first morning of the ML season at 67 yards with my new to me Savage 10Ml shooting VV N-110 (42 grains) and the Hornady 250 grain SST sabot and a CCI209M primer !

This one was coming straight at me so I shot downward into his neck and found the slug under the hide at his left shoulder ! Obviousely he dropped at the crack of the rifle !

Nice symetrical rack . (don't try that line on the ladies) He has good size but doesn't look like that old of a deer . He has good girth at the base of the rack. What kind of mount are you going to do.

I think he's 2 1/2 or possibly 3 1/2 year old deer .

He's already at the taxidermist :D

Gonna do a low sneak looking to his right ! As that is the way he was looking when he net his demise ! My treestand squeaked when I turned to shoot him and he was looking at the ground beneath me .

You know it's pretty sad to say this one has the largest rack when you find out I've taken over 180 whitetails in my life !

Nice shooting. Looks like that 45-70 did the job nicely!

I bought that treestand back about 92 or 93 and it was made by "Brent Hunt's Trophy Whitetail Treestands" in South Carolina . I also have a loc on made by them in the same time period .

Now Treelounge has bought this company and markets these stands . And yes it is comfortable ! I've used this stand in Maine , Pennsylvania , Maryland , Virginia and Alabama . IF I go deer hunting somewhere and drive there this treestand goes as well !

That sure is a nice buck and rifle!
Sure wish we had deer seasons like that here in the West. Your lucky if you draw a tag for one deer each year. I have gone two years in a row without a tag quite a few times.
