Today GK Jr. and I went to Fort Nelson, overlooking Portsmouth, the home of the Royal Navy.
I come here each Remembrance Day for the remembrance service. At 11AM a gun crew in the First World War uniform of The Royal Artillery, fire a field gun that was used in The First World War,to mark the start of two minute's silence.

We here in the UK wear Poppies in our lapels to remember the fallen, from the fields of Flanders to Iraq and Afghanistan.

I find it sad that fewer people seem to wear the Poppy, as the money raised by the sale of these Poppies goes towards Veterans that were injured or have fallen on hard times.

Lest we forget.
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lest we all forget indeed.

Most of the younger generation simply have no concept at what it cost the world during the last century to ensure their freedom and prosperity. Sadly the schools do a miserable job of informing them. I know we all take the time at home and elsewhere - and I thank God for that. I especially thank God for the millions of men and women who throughout time have answered the call, and fought for liberty and justice!

I don't remember where I got this but here is another definition. What is a Veteran? A veteran, whether having served on the land, on or under the sea or in the air, is someone who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "UP TO AND INCLUDING MY LIFE."
