THE 338 MARLIN EXPRESS IS HERE......AND WOW!

Post by Bogie35 »

If it will do what they say at the muzzle, then YIKES! It out-performs the Remington 200gr. 35 Whelen load past about 120 yards and has a Maximum Point Blank Range of over 250 yards!!!!!

Yeah, but it will be available in new solid-top side-eject Marlin rifles. Also, there is no 200gr. 348 Winny that will do 2100 fps at 200 yards. And, from my brief experience with the 35 Rem FTX bullets, they are very tough and produce an excellent combination of expansion and penetration. Kinda like Core-Lokts with a soft pointy nose. :D

I haven't been this excited since last night when I dreamed that Obama really didn't win! :D :D

Well I have dial up and it took me about 20 minutes to be able to view the video !

But other then that my personal opinion of the 338 Marlin Express hasn't changed any ................. :!:

I still want a 338MX , a 338MXLR , a set of Redding dies for the cartridge and about 200 rounds of ammo
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !

I am watching this one closely - it has the power and trajectory to make it very useful as a cross-over rifle. By that I mean a 300 yd capable small, medium and (small)-large animal cartridge. The pointy bullets and scoped rifle make it what the 348 could have been. I'll hold judgement and comparisons until I see it for myself.

Not real sure it'll do anything the 358 wouldn't already do, but it would be a fun thing to get ahold of a properly speced reamer, a 338 barrel, and get a decent lever (winchester 8) ) rebarreled and chambered to it , just for kicks and grins.

If I buy a new rifle next year this wil be it. ( I usually only buy used stuff) But like all Marlin's I have to see it before I buy, They're fit and finish seems to very enough not to have one ordered up sight unseen.

Cool! Great for Hornady and Marlin - this is good stuff indeed.

And if they are now going to market the component bullets then my 356 Win will be able to match that easily with the 35 Cal gum tips :)

And my 30-30 AI will really like the 30 cal version.

I would strongly suggest that Hornady start working on an all-copper version for the coming Kennedy-EPA storm.

I'm with BenT on seeing rifles before I buy them. Almost all brands. Even an outfit like Shiloh. A friend bought one of those and the forend and butt wood are a poor match. Have to see if a rifle speaks to me.

 Now Bogie just keep in mind than 9 times out of 10 the factory hype far exceeds anything honest folks with good chronographs come up with once the rifle and ammo actually make it to the public. :D 308 xpress being an excellent recent example

I finally realized that some things are only skin deep, so I apologized to my 35 Rem. Everything's alright now.

Very interesting development. I wonder how this would work out of the Encore from say a 16" barrel?

Well, I have to agree that I'm skeptical that this thing will improve upon the 358 Winchester out of a (my) Browning BLR. I haven't checked any ballistics charts yet, but I suspect the 405 Win handily trumps it as well. But any excuse that sells another rifle is OK in my book.

That's amazing performance from the 336; I would have bet they couldn't do it. The .35 Rem is adequate for my needs and has the pedigree, but this could be tempting.

I'll probably never buy one, as it's just not my thing, but it should make one heck of a great elk round!
