Funny story
After spending this morning reloading shotshells, among other chores, I was finally able to fire them.
I loaded ten shells with blackpowder, and just for the heck of it, one with smokeless.
The smokeless shell was loaded in a hurry , don't do that.
Well, to make a long story short, The smokless shell recieved very little of a crimp and almost no pack. These are brass shells by the way.
So, when I fired it there was a slight pop followed by the shot trickling out of the barrel into a neat pile on the ground.
Then everyone laughed at me.
I was reminded of the 'booger incedent' in high school...

One really can't reload brass hulls on the same machine one loads plastic. You can hit a few of the wtations, but not all.
Brass hulls take 11 GA wads. You need three of them with BP: an over powder wad, a cushion wad and a cap card or shot card. Pressure is unimportant so compression is not an issue. Most BP hulls use large pistol primers so that station will not work on a shotshell reloader. You can use the shot dispenser but usually not the powder hopper and you don't crimp so again, kinda usless to use the shotshell machine. Hand tools are all one needs.

Midway for the hulls, Magtech I think. I had to make everything else from scratch. I have a die set, but no press as yet, they are larger in diameter than what I have now, doh.
Since I wasn't able to crimp them, they fed poorly through my '97. They would hang up chambering. This was with the 'Norchester', didn't want to blow up a Winny...
I used a H&R to test them with , because of the feeding problem.
They patterened rather well, considering no shot cup was used.
Now just to up the charge to something reasonable. Once I find a used press with the correct thread size, these will be just fine, and look cool too.
Ya gotta' love that black powder!

The old style way of reloding brass shotshell cases was to load as normal, do NOT crimp, but insert the over shot card wad and hold it in place with a seal of waterglass. This was commonally used to seal cracked eggshells. The reason being no wear and tear on the brass case rim. I believe it is still being produced.
I believe the website omgb is referring to is
http://www.hammerdouble.com/index.html
While its true brass shells don't need to be crimped for singleshots and doubles, most repeaters ('87s, '97s, etc.) often have trouble feeding them smoothly without a slight roll crimp.

Yep, that's the company. FWIW, I never crimp, and i don't use water glass. I use a from of super glue called Satelite City or Hot Stuff. Iuse the medium grade or the thick it isn't important and I just put a dab on the over the shot wad. Works like a charm.
