My guide guns jamming

I just bought a 1895 GG in 45-70 and the noses of the bullets are catching at the top and side of the chamber. This happens when the lever is worked fast. Its as if the carrier is throwing the cartridge up too hard. When the lever is worked slow it doesnt happen. Any ideas?

The only provlem I've had is mine won't feed "leverevolution" ammo but it isn't an "XLR" either; it seems to feed regular stuff ok. My 1894 is picky about just how fast you cycle the lever, and you have to keep the gun pointed horizontally when levering; vertical and it will jam.

What type bullets are you using ? Factory jacketed bullet ammo, or lead slugs with squared-off noses/shoulders, like a Keith bullet ?

If this jam does not occur with all factory cartridges when feeding from magazine, possibilities are??
1. Nose configuration is too long or too blunt.

2. Cartridge overall length is too long.

Are you having problems with handloaded ammo or factory or both?

As has been mentioned, watch your over-all-length on handloads very close.

And don't cant/lean the rifle over on it's side (very far) when cycling the lever.

Well, I know I am no help, but I fixed my jamming 44mag by trading it off for a Winchester. They just seem to work better. It's just that I got tired of how finiky the Marlin 1894 in 44mag can be, at least mine was. The Marlin 357's seem to work better in the 1894 model.

Thanks, these are handloads with 405gr fp bullets. I seated them out to slightly under max length. I loaded another batch seated deeper to see which it likes since marlins are new to me. It happens in that first 1/2 to 1 inch of rearward lever travel when the carrier throws the shell up and the bolt goes forward before the shell settles and hits the breech. I'll try the shorter ones and keep the rifle level. Thanks again.
