Rossi spitting out loaded rounds
G'day Fellas,
Have just bought a new rossi 92 in 357 mag, it is spitting out the last round when the carrier is raised and the lever is at the bottom of it's stroke. Can anyone shed any light on this.
Cheers

Welcome Rus!
I don't know the answer to your question, but someone will. I'll take a guess that the magazine tube follower is binding and not kicking the last round all the way to the rear of the cartridge lifter. It is my understanding that many Rossi shipped with a plastic magazine tube follower that will always fail at some point. Here's a picture: http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displ ... um=8860615
There's a DVD on exactly how to slick that little Rossi up nice that is a must-have for every Rossi owner. http://www.stevesgunz.com
If you do order the DVD, have Steve send you the upgraded ejector spring and magazine follower(if yours is plastic).
If the answer to your question does not come fast enough for you, email Steve. He is the most knowledgeable person on the Rossi on our board, maybe in the world.

You mean they fly clear out of the action?

G'day AJMD429,
The rounds are being thrown clear of the action from the lifter when it is raised without the round being chambered when the lever is in the down position(1/2 way through its stroke)mostly it is the last round in the mag.
Cheers,
Rus Ler

Rus Ler,
You gotta tell us a little more, mate!
How long have you had this rifle?
Is it a brand-new gun?
How long did it take for the problem to show itself (number of rounds/ time that you owned rifle)?
Which rounds are giving you problems: .38 Special, or .357 Magnum?
Shawn

Re: Rossi spitting out loaded rounds
That sure stumps me, and looking at the action I'm not sure how it would happen.
In case you hadn't noticed, we've had a couple weeks of more political posts than gun posts; I think that will die down soon (and hopefully the energy will be turned to productive political pro-gun activities).
In just the time it took to type this you got two responses, so hold on - answer likely coming up soon...

Re: Rossi spitting out loaded rounds
Gents,
Two things come to mind:
(1.) The carrier is not moving/ staying put like it is supposed to. It is poping up too soon. The detent ball on the side of the carrier could be dirty & sticking. Clean the carrier very well, and work the ball & its spring.
(2.) The projection on the front of the (which pushes up on the carrier) could be too long. This would mean careful filing, and trial & error, to achieve satifactory functioning.
My.02!

The first thing to look at is the length of your ammo. If you are using short 38 specials in it, that could be the problem. What happens is the short 38 is released under spring pressure on to the carrier and when it hits the cart stop on the back end of the carrier it will bounce forward. If it is short enough it will bounce forward enough that the rim is under the rim slots in the guides and as the carrier is flipped up the short round is thrown completely out of the gun.
Ideally the AOL should be at least 1.5". If your ammo is at least this long then the next thing to look is the guides controling the round. if they are too far apart, they can lose control of the round. Shimming them will sometimes cure this.
