Aloha Brothers, just got in from the hospital a couple hours ago, but got distracted adjusting to my new room layout and getting comfortable using a walker in the house which I am stuck using for a few weeks as I gain strength. All your words of encouragement have been strengthening and I thank you one and all for your support. Here's a picture from Friday evening as my first visitor arrived baring gifts, his name is Jon, and he's a newer fishing buddy which belongs to the same fishing club so he dropped off the "bouquet" of fish cookies, and a card as a gift from contributing club members, very touching that so many cared. I am so blessed to have friends like my Leverguns brothers, and my fishing club "nephews" (they all call me uncle since this is a term and sign of respect in Hawaiian culture to refer to your elder kupuna males by). I am pretty beat so will post more later. Mahalo nui, Ji

Fish cookies? I probably don't want to know.

If you're going to be in a walker for a while, you're probably going to build up some killer arm strength. Take it slow and easy for a while.

Wonderful that all went well with your surgery! I had a disc removed @c5 (in my neck) about 5 years ago. My head felt like it wanted to fall off of my shoulders for about a week after, but I still felt wonderful to be rid of the misery that the constant pain in my left arm was causing me. Here's hoping that you're back on your feet and back to normal routine quickly.

Ji, glad to see that you made it through the surgery OK. Now just take it easy and heal up. You can push yourself to get back to 100% later after the healing. I hope to hunt with you again sometime. A cousin of mine has a problem with wild hogs on her place. I am trying to find time to help out. Maybe some day after you recover, you can come and give me a hand.

Aloha friends and brothers, thank you one and all for your well-wishes and prayers, I seem to be recovering at a good clip though I need to be cautious and not jump the gun. Yesterday I had my first follow-up visit with my doctor who removed the 20 staples from the incision. I also have pretty much graduated from walker to cane in past 2 days, and am able to get to the bathroom solo now. Did instinctively stomp a roach on the kitchen floor the other day that sent shock waves throughout my body so I learned real quick I must give the roaches amnesty for a few weeks.
I'm to rest up another month before a follow up visit with both orthopedic and neurosurgeons, and the start of my aquatic therapy which last for a month before regular PT starts up. I'm on a 5 lb. lifting limit for the time being. I'm feeling stronger every day. I can't wait to be strong enough for a range session. Thanks again for everything.

Hey! Glad to hear things are going well. Twenty one years ago I had a similar surgery and was the best thing that ever happened to my body. Free advise...probably heard before and perhaps worth what you pay for it, DO NOT GO TO FAST IN YOUR WANTING TO GET BACK. TAKE IT EASY. WHEN YOU THINK YOU ARE BACK TO NORMAL...WAIT SIX MORE WEEKS!

Ji - that just made my day. I thought I was going to be depressed and infuriated all day given the election results. Your update on your improving health is what I needed to remind me that all is not lost. It never is when one has faith.

Ji: been off the 'puter for awhile now, and just ran across this post.. glad to hear you're getting better.. I had a disc taken out of my lower back in 1985, have had 23 years of pain free livin' since.. hope your surgery has the same relults. I do remember that I was out on the deck with my walker and the 22 rifle.. had my boy run out the tin cans.. Just remember to take it real easy on the recovery.. you sure don't want to cause a relapse, and have to go thru it again.. best wishes.. Les

The CO2 powered pellet guns would be easy enough on you. Don't do anything too strenuous yet, as the healing must get started good before you push it. Pain will come and go, and don't confuse soreness with pain from damage. May you heal fully and be better than you were ten years ago. Hope to hunt with you again.

Aloha guys, thanks for the encouraging words, I'm getting stronger every day. I wish I still lived on rural Maui instead of my current suburbia on Oahu. Maui no problem shooting in either front or back yard with a 22 but here on Oahu a BB gun would be pushing it though I always wanted to get a Walther .177 pellet rifle 94 Winchester clone. Actually I'm still on a 5 lb. lift limit so not even sure if a pellet rifle would be too much at the moment. Financially of course it's out of the question but I'll still dream about the Walther. Thanks again for all the encouragement, you all are true blue friends. :D

Glad to see you're doing well Ji.

Just as an aside. We were having problems with roaches here as well. Some of you know just about everyone does in Fla. I read somewhere that catnip would take care of them. I planted some catnip in a clay pot out front and I harvest it when I can. I think I can safely say I have no more roaches.
