Hoarding brass?
I have to ask, am I the only who hoards brass? I have this obsession/compulsion to stock up on .348 brass. Every time I run across .348 brass I grab it. Just bought 300 new pieces two days ago. Strange, 1886.

Re: Hoarding brass?
Probably smart. I have a bunch of 348 as well and as far as I can tell, Winchester is never going to make it again. Every year they say they're going to make another run of 348 ammo and they never do.

It is not hoarding, it is wisely stocking up for a rainy day. I think we will have plenty of those to contend with shorty.

Re: Hoarding brass?
About 20 years ago I walked into a store in Oregon that sold ammo and components. They had a shopping cart setting out in the isle with several boxes of new Win brass in .348. They wanted 8.00 a box for it. I offered the mgr 8.00 for all of it, I think I got 5 boxes for that price. But now I have 35 boxes of loaded factory, and about 1,500 rounds of new and once fired .348. About 1,000 bullets. Do you know where I can get some more?, I feel like I am running low. I'd like to catch up with you if I can
The stuff won't spoil.

To hell with them fellas, buzzards gotta eat same as the worms.

Re: Hoarding brass?
Buying all the components I can find, and brass that I use. There was a garage sale yesterday close by. I bought 400 44 special once fired case's for $4.00 a hundred, the guy thru in the MTM 100 round boxes for each 100 rounds. I bought 2000 Winchester Large Pistol Primers for $15.00 and a 3# canister of Winchester 296 powder for $10.00. Then he sold me his MEC600 Jr. reloader for $25.00 W/ 4 powder bushings and three charge Bars. Oh, I almost forgot, 125# of number 7 1/2 shot in new unopened bags for $100.00.
I now have over 1000 44 special cases and almost as many 44-40 cases.
One can not have enough components for reloading, can one ?

IMO what you are doing is not hoarding, it's called conservation and the more we coserve the better off we are.I am the same when comes to 348 componets. I have 2650 348 bullets of various manufactures and 700 rds of brass. I am always looking for any deal on brass and bullets to feed my long and short guns.1886 wrote:I have to ask, am I the only who hoards brass? Re: Hoarding brass?
When I see limited run brass that I need, I buy it. Once I get around 200 pieces - for leverguns, bolts, etc. (not the autoloaders) I stop - unless it's a great deal!

Maybe we should start a 12 step group.
Hi my name is Rusty and I'm a brass hoarder.
My problem is I go to the range and come home with brass for stuff I don't even own. It just jumps into my pockets I don't know how. I come home and there it is. My wife looks at me and looks at the brass and she asks when did you buy a ( insert name of head stamp here) and I say I didn't. she says then where did this brass come from? I get a glazed look in my eyes and I try to remember... suddenly my mind goes bland, my hands begin to sweat, and I can't remember.

Re: Hoarding brass?
I don't even own a .348 but I found three empty cases at the range a couple years ago and have been hoarding those three cases ever since.

Re: Hoarding brass?
Several years ago 25-35 brass dried up. Rumor was that they weren't going to sell except in pallet lots...this from Midway IIRC. So I found some and bought about 1500 rounds. Now I shoot 25-35 very seldom, but I do make .219 Improved out of 25-35 cases...so, I do have a good stock. 348 is one that I should hoard more, but never do....

If I had cases of the stuff in my basement you might call me a hoarder.

Re: Hoarding brass?
I just bought a 444 and I already had 200 new pieces and 200 once fired on hand.
I'm curious with the drop in metal prices , what component cost are going to be next year. So I'm going to stop hoarding brass for a while to see if prices go down.

If the price is roght, and the brass is something I'll use, I stock up on every piece I find. Heck, if somebody is tossing brass at the gun club, I grab it, even if I don't have that caliber. Makes good trading stock. I recently bought a new Marlin XL7C in .270, and when I looked under the loading bench I found a can half full of .270 brass! Never owned one before, so must have been some I picked up at the club!

Re: Hoarding brass?
I don't have much brass on me. I would like more; I would like to stock pile atcually. I saw some Win 30-30 brass at the gun show today I might go back and get tommorow if it's still there. On hand I got 140pcs of .45LC, a handful each of 30-30 and .270, and about 700+pcs .38spl. It's a start.

I'm a brass whore and willing to admit it. I grab anything I can when possible - even for guns I don't have. Whenever I find a deal on brass I usually buy it. Just another squirrel with his nuts...

Am I missing something? Yeah, yeah -- I know, but this time I really mean it. Winchester .348 Brass is readily available. Isn't it always?

Re: Hoarding brass?
I generally find that I can get at least 10-reloads out of my brass -- .30-30, .30-06, .444 Marlin, .38 S&W Special . I've got hundreds maybe even a thousand .30-30,.30-06, and .38 S&W Special cases each from over 50-years of shooting and saving brass and I've probably got a little over 400 cases of .444 Marlin . I have gobs of bullets, primers, and powder to go along with the cases so I figure I'm set for all time. Having said that, anyone know where I can get some .444 Marlin brass cheap?
Re: Hoarding brass?
Let me put it another way...
I know I have enough of a particular cartridge's brass when I feel I can sell or give some away. I only feel that way about cartridges I don't shoot.

Re: Hoarding brass?
I'm not a fan of 9mm pistols or their ammo but I find myself scrounging up all the 9mm brass I see. I now have 5-6 9mm handguns just because i have so much brass. I even cast for the dang things, but that may be because I'm cheap!!! I have laid in a pretty good supply of most of the calibers I shoot, but I'm still a bit obsessive about finding brass and other components. It can all live in my reloading shed and not eat any hay.....

Of course, if I can get a head start on casting, I may never reach 1000 pieces of empty .45ACP brass!

Griff, if you are ever in dire need of 45 ACP brass or 30/30 for that matter let me know. I'm pretty sure I can spare that much.Griff wrote:I can't afford to hoard brass... so in keeping the Obama's plan to redistribute wealth, I'd like everyone to send me 100 pieces of .45ACP brass...
