It happened. We left the gate open and at least one spammer made it in. He got shot down and erased, but the gate's closed now. Admittance by visual confirmation of the code and moderator acceptance of the registration. It looks like I called it just about right when I told y'all it'd stay open for two days, ending on Dec. 20. Last night I was contemplating leaving it open for the weekend, but we don't need the riffraff and so we'll be checkin' registrations again.

Anyway, in case there's a spammer lurking in the wings, so to speak, and he posts - DON'T reply to the message. PLEASE DON'T REPLY TO SPAMMERS - ESPECIALLY THE PORN PROS. Just copy the URL and private message it to Hobie and me. We'll go in, delete it and scrub the poster's registration. Just let junk like that slide and alert us to it so we can mop up.

We may end up with trolls, only time will tell. But the Refuge showed what spammers can do when the door's left open and they are one of the biggest problems we face in keeping this a decent joint. Y'all aren't likely to see much about them 'cause Hobie and I nuke 'em ASAP (in the approval of membership process) thus sparing y'all their idiocy.

I know I changed servers for the same problem.The new server has a strict sign up and e-mail filter,so strict,I can't even e-mail myself from my cell phone but can from msn.com etc.No spammers or porn for a couple weeks until it happened.Luckily I caught it and had to turn it back to Admin Only in the control panel.

To bad those low life's are out there ruining a good thing and making it harder on the rest of us with good intentions.
