Politics C Powell on meet the press

Post by L8agin »

Just turned meet the press off mid stream. Powell stated he is concerned about the republican party going to far right????? He is concerned about the judges McCain would choose would be too conservative???? He doesn't like the McCains choice of gov Palin for vice pressident!!!
Obviously a media set up for Obama-well I didn't watch the end for shure because I was sooo MAD.
He did say we had to be involved in the world militarily but need to talk with our advisaries more. Reagen talked but developed and talked with a big stick.
Essentially felt powell was mostly political denouncing peoples fears of Obamas past affiliations and religious associations as not the issue???? How the hell else ya gonna judge a man-By his campaign rehtoric??? No you look at his past to see what he believes and practices.
Powell was self contradictory.
Any way Meet the press is now a liberal campaign tool.
Powell was another one of GW's mistakes.
All this and the voter fraude that seems to be accepted just defies credability to what our system has evoled into
The liberals have succeded in getting people to vote their favorite social givaway program rather than freedom and constitution.

Like I said in an earlier post, Birds of a feather flock together.

I don't care what he "claims" this is strictly a race issue, IMO..!

That is ridiculous. McCain is anything but far right. I won't believe anything else he says. He backed up the Iraq move so where is he?

Powell is no conservative. He is a RINO republican. He has always been a RINO. After listening to his interview, I too was a little surprised. I agree that race is playing a bigger role than many would like to acknowledge. 1886.

Racism rears its ugly head.

Hypocritical *** if you ask me. Does extremely well as a Republican - would be welcomed as a Republican nominee and then does this becase of the dem's race. IMHO.

Never miind that obamination's a socialst. Never mind that he's going to gut our military. Never mind he's got no experience and will endager our country in a very volitile world. No, never mind - he's got the right skin tone, so I'm gonna endorse him.

I would've voted for Powell as a Republican candidate - but not now - not ever.

Powell hasn't been a Republican for years. Yes, he's still a party member, but he's been a Liberal since before he left the White House. This endorsement doesn't surprise me one bit. Nor do I think it will make a difference.

He isn't as well liked by the troops - past or present - as the MSM would have us believe.

AFAIC he's just part of that singular "79%" minority opinion (pun not intended) from the Military Times survey.

I was very disappointed in his justification/rationalization of his choice. I expected better of General Powell.

I once held Gen Powell in high regards.(Not anymore) and not because of this election. while I was in the service because well, he was one of the Generals who helped plan our attack into Iraq and was very successfull ,as you all well know (Desert Storm). About 10 years ago I built an Iron fence for a man who was a really good guy who died from a heart attack alittle while after his project was installed, He worked for Gen Powell in the Pentagon, He spent 30 years in that place and knew everyone very well. He told me alot of things about Gen Powell and others which i will not repeat here on line, but at the end of our conversation I stood their with my mouth open. He did say Powell was not a very smart man, and that he fooled alot of people with words. I am usually not the kind of man who take's another mans word to the truth bank, but this man was a christian and was very believable. We spent over a week talking while I was installing his fence and got to know each other pretty well. It was during those days I lost alot of respect for Gen Powell after hearing what he was really like. (He is not the man most of you think he is). It is no suprise to me that he sucked up to Obama.

If I am not mistaken, Powell was promoted at a time when affirmative action was the norm in the military.

I will not take away from his previous performance. I think he did a good job in serving his country in all capacities that he's held previously.

This is just a sell-out pure and simple - and I doubt he's getting anything for it other than satisfaction.

I'm just very dissapointed in him for being such a fool.

I miss a lot not having T.V. I guess I will have to look for it on the Net. I didn't have any opinion of Powell before this so I had no expectations of what he would do. I knew what I wanted him to say, I guess I should wish in one hand......

+1 :( :( :(

I really TRIED to give him the benefit of the doubt. I've tried to ignore his leftward movement, though I must admit, looking at his positions over the years, he hasn't moved that much - he was always left of center. This is a crushing blow...

No offense meant to anyone here, but why the surprise? Powell is a political General, much like Wesley Clark.
In my opinion, he has ridden the "success" of Gulf War One to much success in his personal life, while the man who really deserved the credit for our successes on the ground in that conflict was Norman Schwarzkopf.

Powell was extremely influential in talking George Bush (# 1) into pulling the plug before our troops could go to Bagdhad and bring Saddam in for war crimes, and crimes against humanity. If I remember correctly, Powell was frightened of the effect of regular CNN filming of the "highway of death," and what this might do to American support.

Powell, at the very least, has now removed himself from any consideration as a future Republican candidate. Good ! Those of you who said he was always a RINO were right on the money. - DixieBoy

I suspect this is Powell getting even for the embarassment he feels for the presentation he made to the UN about Saddam's WMD's. He didn't support the current war in Iraq, but did not have the courage to resign during the run up during Bush II's first term. So he made the presentation he didn't believe in, caught all kinds of flack for it, and then resigned when many do at the beginning of a new Presidential term.

So much for "country first"...

I don't think I could have made myself vote for Colin Powell. I might have endorsed him as a Vice President, but he has always been too much of a RINO for my taste.

I just wish Walter Williams would run on the Republican ticket. That is a black conservative I'd be glad to vote for, he knows how the cow eats the cabbage and he doesn't hesitate to tell things the way they are.

FWIW, one of the reasons Powell didn't get involved in politics is that he know the NRA would never support him. He is not a friend of gun owners.

Walter Williams or Thomas Sowell. I truly believe these two are probably among the smartest 10 people alive today. Either would be fantastic - but both are too honest and too intelligent to run for office!

Republican In Name Only:

Someone who is a "member" of the Republican Party (also called GOP/Grand Old Party) yet is in most public ways a Big Government psudeo/Socialist/Liberal - i.e. Pro Gun Contol, Pro Abortion (vs. pro-get-government-out-of-it), pro "Social Experimentation", etc.

A "flatbottomed" Democrap (one without a visible "donkey").

OI is spot on, but I'd add that a RINO is the most despicable of all our "political" creatures. At least the donkeys (Democrats - the leftists over here) are honest enough to state what they are (even if most will not admit to being socialist). The RINO pretends to be a conservative to get elected, then votes like a Democrap!

But you can't like them - because they're black - and I know you're really a raciist. How do I know you're a racist? Simple - you don't think Obama is the Messiah. Anyone who doesn't think Obama is the Messiah is just a racist; I know because they say so on NPR and the television.

Anger turned to disgust. Hope people understood his words!!
Worried McCain would select too conservative judges
The republican party has moved too far right
The economic crises has to be solved on a world wide basis-How do you spell euro?
Our policies are too unilateral we need to talk-negotiate with our advisaries  sounds like the ineffective UN
Four points that basically refutes his earlier statement that he is American first. The only way he is american first is if america changes or elliminates the constitution.
His intent is clearly to qualify himself past color for the Obama regiem
Trying to understand Obamas support--There definitly is the vote for "my gimme program", but there is more to it than that. The "more" I think is our education systems lack of teaching values, A true unbiased history, and what the constitution specifically says and doesn't say. This is evident in the believe that government is responsible for our well being beyond defense and can solve problems like our economy without people in charge benifiting themselves and their friends.
Getting off a little but gov solution to economic problems -print more money with the same amount of real goods and services = inflation. That makes your saved 401K do less for you, but don't worry the banks can now loan you money if you need it.
