A Warning About A New Poster: Bestlever

Post by Blaine »

:P Just a warning about this fella: It could be to your advantage to listen to any advice this scoundrel puts out. He's shown me a ton of basic loading knowledge that for some reason or other embarasses me by being WAY better than the way I was doing it. He's given me mucho extra equipment that he had lying around, too. Also, seems like many of his family and friends ask him to load for him; Seems that his ammo is match quality. If he sez he has Bad News, it's the 335 grain @ 1350fps kind out of a BlackHawk .45. This absolute desperado will take your rifles from you and out shoot you with them. He crawles thru bear tunnels with a knife in his teeth ready to do a Cougar Crouch Death Leap on anything he finds in his way. Don't ask what the Vise Grips are for. Do not ask what he did to his Wife's car when it stalled in traffic. Add to this, he's the best guide on the Rogue River and will prolly toss my azz in Dead GirlScout Riffle the next time I get in his little Toys R Us Willy Boat  If you hear a story about a Hippy in WalMart, it's true. I hope he hangs around here, he has many good stories to tell....All the above is true..... So: Bite Me Jim

I've never met Jim, but have had independent confirmation of all the above. His wife fishes, too.

Oh heavens. BeastLover has landed here. Fella's look out this here fellow is wiley. Puts that ole coyote to shame. But, Blaine is right. He's one knowlegable fellow. I've heard tell he knows how to catch a fish or three, as well. But rest assured, he is a master of the "cougar crouch" and can instruct all in the ways of the CC.

+1 Heck, that lovely young lady couldn't be related to anyone who frequents this place (present company more than included)! Maybe a palace or two - certainly royalty, but nobody here! :D

Hello Riflemen-I'm not sure whether to thank the tuba for his introduction or loosen his front motorcycle axil nut  I do want to say that I do have a passion for Riflemen, shooters of almost any arms, outdoor photography, any kind of fishing, hunting, hiking and the outdoors in general. In the past it has been difficult to find folks with similar passions but as the internet came into my rooms I found about a zillion new friends that shared my interests and with that found that you fellows had a lot to teach me. Though bumpy at times, the outdoor web sites I have enjoyed over the years have been fun and a great learning experience. I'm hard put to think up some question that someone on the internet has not thought of and solved.

Many years ago my son and I set out to fix up a Marlin rifle he had purchased in high school. I ran across a fellow going by the name Paco Kelly that had written extensively on most of the things we were researching anfd that become my primary source of information on the levergun. My son's rifle has been hunting every year since as a 3030AI and he shoots itty bitty bullets through Blacktail bucks pretty regular with it. I am changing scopes on it now and have it in my gun safe waiting for a chance to sight it in. I have been an on again, off again poster here since I worked on that rifle, and a regular forum reader here. I know some terrific folks that like to hang out here and am thinking about spending some more time learning and reading entertaining stories here myself.

One last thing. I manage to spend a good deal of time fishing salmon and steelhead from my drift boat pretty much all year long. I enjoy taking folks fishing on these drift boat trips as friends and my deal is you get here and I'll do the rest! A one day license is about $13 and if you like I have a 24' camp trailer for you to stay in rather than a motel. You can bring one friend. It's really as simple as that. Just PM or call me and we'll see if the fish are in and if we can put a fishing trip together. I live in Oregon. 1-541-897-0092 Jim Thanks for the welcome Riflemen, Life is good, BestLever

Hey BL!
We picked up a 17 lb. steelhead at the mouth of the John Day recently! Also had three big rams come right down to the water to visit!

Hello Marlinman93-To be remembered as the day of the Jackpot I think. A fellow can spend a lifetime trying to catch a 17 pound steelhead and getting that close to a big ram. To get both in a day borders on a miricle :D Now, tell me you caught that steelhead on a fly and I will torpedo my drift boat

You be sure to put that day in a journal for the yougins coming up. Absolutely outstanding! Life is good, BestLever

Your boat is safe BL! It was caught on a diver plug, sort of a perch colored affair, but not sure of the brand. Just trolling with about 80 ft. of line behind the boat and no weight.-Vall

Hello Riflemen-I need a little more than you gave me marlinman93. Was you pulling plugs in the first mile or so of the river or up river. Drift boat or back trolling a sled boat or something similar? I don't want all your secretes but just enough to get a feel for what you had going. Life is good, BestLever

We were outside the mouth, just above the John Day on the Oregon side. Trolling both directions, but against the current when we got most of our strikes. Pretty slow troll, with a 8 hp motor at just above idle, in a welded aluminum Duckworth.

Old BrokenRod used kite string and a broomstick that last time I fished with him, so I fear your advice will go unheeded.

Hello Riflemen-Thanks marlinman93 :D I will likely make a trip up to the John Day one day when the fir=sh are in and you have probably saved me a great deal of trial and error. That's the big thing about these outdoor web sites. Generally there is a fairly free flow of helpful information being shared to get past those long unproductive days of almost endless learning on your own. When I come up north for that John Day trip I will 'warn' you and tuby so you can take whatever action you wish. But I'll come with two comfortable seats open if you dare. Life is good, BestLever

Thanks BL! I'll take you up on that offer, and buy you dinner too! Make sure you troll very close to the banks when outside the mouth, as the steelhead and salmon seem to hold within 20 ft. of the bank.
