On the brink... group story board time

Post by O.S.O.K. »

Here's a start:

On the Brink
The Trigger
John Selman sat watching the news story with trepidation and loathing. It couldn’t be. The State of Texas had gone for the Republican candidate for President, but the Democratic candidate had won the national election and it looked like the House and Senate would remain in their control as well. This was unacceptable. The United States of America was now lead by avowed socialists.
Foment
Leaving his wife and two sons in the family room, John moved to his office and logged-on to the internet and navigated to the gun board where he often posted discussion topics. It was boiling. The reaction to the election had lit up the board and the members were incredulous and fearful of what coming events may transpire. Building up to the election, the hot topics were the economic and banking crisis, voter fraud, and ongoing run on ammunition and rifles and magazines that were expected to be banned if the democrats were to gain control of the Presidency and keep control of the Legislature. Prices on ammunition and these firearms had skyrocketed and it was close to impossible to find any standard caliber ammunition for sale. The board was on fire with 40 to 50 new topics being posted every minute with subject matter ranging from reloading ammunition to membership drives for the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America and other gun rights groups. There was also a growing interest in forming militias.
This last idea was intriguing to John. He had always thought of militias as being a haven for the kook, paranoid type. But now, he wasn’t so sure. The fear on the board was palpable. For his own part, John was deeply concerned about what could transpire with this new, left-wing swing in the country’s political leadership. Although they had avoided the issue of gun control during the election to escape the wrath of the NRA, it was well understood by the conservative side of the population that if given the means, the Democrats would show their true colors and there would be another gun ban imposed, and this time, it would be a confiscation program. They would not make the same mistakes as they had in the past, using incremental steps which could be combated by the other side, they would go for the jugular this time around. They would impose numerous roadblocks to repeal. John was among those who understood this inevitable development and it worried him deeply. He had many times stated that he would turn in his guns and ammo “one bullet at a time” if a confiscation law were passed. And now the time was nearing.

So, John did what every other red-blooded, 21st Century American would - He speed-dialed a local pizza shop, to make sure he still could, and would eat hartily while "thinking" about what to do next.

Then, suddenly, .....................

...he realized he would not could not go to jail and leave his wife without a husband or his children without a father. That's when he turned rebel and gave up his guns. Then he registered to vote

... he awakened, soaked in sweat. It was then that he realized that it had all been a horrific nightmare. John was now fully conscious and decided that he had better do everything he could to ensure that his dream did not come true. (continue)

Then John realized he didn't have to give up his weapons. The Republicans had seen to it with laws and conditions pushed through.

All John had to do was join up with Obamas service corps to hunt government opposition, the homeland "terrorists". Turning in and hunting "terrorists" would prove good for John.

John was able to feed his family, keep his guns, aquire fully automatic weapons and "serve" his Country and his world. No need for the silly militia that doesn't pay well, if at all.

John thanked his lucky stars for Democrat and Republican compromises.
