OT-need help with S&W's..

Post by morgan in nm »

I ended up buying a pre-production 629 with 8 3/8 barrel today brand new in the blue box also with the presentation box which was still covered in plastic. I carefully opened the presentation box and the blue foam inside disintegrated. Does anybody know where I can get new foam-like material so I could replace it? Any help would be appreciated. It is very thin material.

I have been told that stuff is called flauxing. Don't know if that's the correct spelling. And that it can be had in aerosol cans.
Others have removed the rest of the fuzzy stuff and recovered the insides with felt.

I used to have the name and contact info of a guy who did this. He quoted me $35.00 for the job.

I'll try and find it.

Thanks, let me know. I cried big tears when that blue lining turned to dust before my very eyes.

Who sells that flauxing? Brownell's?

go to the smith and wesson forun. There is a man there who redoes them for about $35.00. he has a good reputation with forum memebers and the photos posted show a 'factory' recreation. The flocking kit itself sells for about $20.00. Let me know if you want to do it your self. I have the catalogue for the factory flocking kit around here somewhere.

Probably the same guy I was in contact with. I haven't found the contact info yet.

I cleaned up a new in box model 25 for on of my Doc's at work that the blue flocking came off and rusted on side of the gun. With flitz polish it looks ok with a freckles showing but mostly nice blue underneath. It took me 2-3 days of soaking the gun in ed's red and using wd 40 to get the blue stuff off the gun. It was his grandfathers gun that had been sitiing in a safe with the rest off his collection for years. After seeing that I would never put a gun in that blue stuff again. It would be easy to line it with some split pigskin though.
