I took my 8 year old out to confirm zero on his deer rifle

Post by Bitmap »

He started out warming up with a Chipmunk on paper targets and a steel plate.

Here is a pic out the door of the shed towards the backstop. Thats about 30 yards.

After a little paper punching he got some time on a steel plate. I caught the plate in motion.

Then a few shots at short range with his deer rifle. Marlin 336W .30-30, XS Systems Scout Mount, Simmons 2x20 Prohunter pistol scope, Fulton Armory cheek rest, Remington Managed Recoil factory ammo.

Then we moved to the 100 yard range. Check out the cloud of dust from the backstop.

Checking out his target.

Not bad for an 8 year old at 100 yards. I think he's ready for another season.

Excellent! Good to start them out right in life and I can't think of to many things I had rather do. Reminds me of my two girls and hopefully one day I can start my grandson down that trail. He just turned two so he has a little growing to go. Very good photos and he is going to make you sooo proud when he drops that first deer.

Very cool!

Like his nifty scout rifle. Hope he puts lots of notches on that stock!

Enjoy those days days with your son to the fullest. :D
As they say time flies. That's no lie.
Seems like just yesterday my son was that age.
Next month he will be 22. :o

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Bitmap. The art of shooting is something all of us should pass on.
