OT: Battle Hymn Of The Republic

Post by 45Jack »

A retired LEO buddy of mine sent me this.
I thought a few levergunners might lilke it.

Make sure you give it time to load when you click on the page, it takes little time.

Get a load of these high school kids. At the conclusion listen to the high

notes on the trumpet, played by a high school kid! One of the fathers recorded

it, added some graphic enhancements to the recording, and posted it on the web.

The song, of course, is the 'Battle Hymn Of The Republic.'

Be prepared....It will definitely send a few shivers up your spine.

First of all I thought that was pretty cool. Growing up as a band and choir geek from Ohio I'm no stranger to that song.

secondly,

Wow I missed quite a dust up since I rarely read the political posts.

As a Seventh generation Yankee I ain't sayn' nothin' :D

Here is what I had to say to Brother Tom and Charles:
First of all, let me state without reservation that I am as much of an UnReconstructed Confederate as you will find in this group.

The let me say that I disagree with Brother Tom and with Charles.

Yes, "The Battly Hymn of the Republic" was written by a rabble rousing Yankee abolitionist.

And the song was promptly stolen by the Confederacy! It was quite as popular in the camps of the Army of Northern Virginia as in the Army of the Potomac's camps.

As He died to make men Holy, let us die to make men Free.

What do you think those Johnny Rebs were fighting for? They sure as hell were not fighting to keep the rich man's slaves in bondage! They were fighting for Freedom for Southerners. They offered up their lives at the Altar of Liberty.

I seriously doubt that many Confederate veterans would fully agree with you.

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance and found it to be greatly moving.
