Alliant 2400 Load Data

Post by meanc »

Just came back from Alliant's website. They now have their load data listed again. An interesting thing is, they removed the test barrel length and pressures that were once listed.

I glanced over their 44mag loads and was surprised to see a change.

Before, max load for a 240gr JHP was 18.8gr @ 1434fps.

Now, it's is up to 21gr, but the velocity listed for it is still the same

Have any of you guys looked at it lately.

I'm interested to see if any of the other loads were changed.

21.2gr under a Hornady 240 XTP has always been the max Hornady load IIRC. I never went over 19.6gr with jacketed and stay at 16.3gr of N110 with a Laser Cast 240.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

I'd say 95% of my loads have been 20.5gr under a 240gr Rem JSP / Hornady XTP.

I always felt 18.8gr was a pretty weak listing compared to the velocity from max H-110/296 loads. Out of my 7.5" Ruger Redhawk I was getting tops 1250fps, but with the 20.5gr load I'm right around 1375fps.

So it's definitely nice to see Alliant catching up with the rest of what people have found and changing their data. I guess they figured they were losing a good bit of the market to H-110 and Lil' gun.

Haven't paid much attention to tell the truth, been loading 20 grs under a 240 for about 40 years now, and never really figured a change was called for. :D

I'm curious about what they decided to do about Blue Dot in .357 and .41 magnum.

I always found that low Alliant listing interesting. In the end, I chose to go with the Lyman 48th and Hornady data for 240g jacketed. Like meanc 20.5 with an XTP or a SJSP have been the standard in my 1894.

Did make me feel better to see Alliant move right into the range of other data sources.
