have read other post about the subject and know the prevailing opinion about rem bulk pack ammo ,just never seen fired cases look like this, after 30 years and 11 .22 rifles encluding a mod -39 i had 9 years ago.stupidly sold it, it ate anykind of ammo i feed it...ANYWAY because i missed the 1st 39 i had and its relibilty i bought abrand new one .after 40 rounds of REM bulk pack h.p, shells started sticking in chamber abut every 3 or 4 shots, extracter not pulling them out ,think i checked case head at time and did not notice anything diffrent.sent it back to marlin they changed extracter and polished the chamber the said they fired 36 rounds, brand of ammo unknown. got rifle back fired 45 rounds of REM h.p then it started again cases not being pulled out of the chamber about one round per tube full or one every 19 shots ( atlest marlin got the failure rate down) tried bulk pack winchesterH.P same thing, here is what i noticed, where the firing pin mark is in toward the the middle , the case is blowed out and is squire shaped (sorry no digital camra)it corresponds whith the squire hole in the bolt where the firing pin is, the win cases were blowed out more then the rem cases ,is this a head space problem more than an extracter issue?will send it back again to marlin just dont want them to redo the ejecter if it is something more seriose . did try federal bulk pack, shot 160 rounds no failure but it still faintly had squire marks from firing pin hole in bolt on case heads, will send cases back also . cant always get federal shells and dont want to be stuck with one brand of ammo .sorry about long post just never seen this before just wanted to see if anybody else had

Call Marlin, explain the issue factually, send the rifle back, include the blown cases, and they will make it right or replace the rifle. They will take care of you as they did for me.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Re: marlin mod -39 wont extract cases
I have that problem all the time with my newish 39A.
Changed the extractor and it only helped for a little while. My gunsmith filed the extractor a little bit (sharpening its claw) and that seems to help. I ordered several extractors from Brownell's and can easily switch them out - much more easily than shipping the entire rifle back to Marlin.
I'm also trying some subsonic ammo, hoping that lower pressure rounds won't enlarge the cases as much and they won't be as tight in there.
Finally, cleaning the chamber frequently seems to help. You can quickly swab out the chamber with a Q-tip between loadings.
It can get to be a pain, at times I had it sticking every other round. Right now I'm not shooting it much because of this, but sharpening the tip of the extractor may have done the trick.

Re: marlin mod -39 wont extract cases
Check the chamber with a Q-tip, and see if it catches any cotton when you wipe around the rim cut of the chamber. If it does, it may hvae a burr that is causing the blowouts and the poor extraction. Also check ammo in the chamber to see if it fits closely. It's possible that the chamber is a bit oversized, so measure a new case and compare to a fired case to see how big the difference is. Dial calipers should do a close enough job for this.
