Re: Uberti 73 winchester in 22lr
Winchester made the original 73 in 22LR, and yes Uberti made a copy.
If the price is right buy it, not many around. And there are those of us who would love to own one.

Barbarossa,
If you buy it, let me know of any literature or contact info you may come by, I need a few parts for my original 1873 rimfire, which is what brought me to this forum in the first place.
If you can afford it, do it!

Cool!
Hope someone comes through with some leads, I really want to get that thing running again.
Would that be cool with a period correct scope & mounts?

Re: Uberti 73 winchester in 22lr
I had a Uberti 73 Carbine made about 1974 and it sure was a good rifle, I took several long range (100 yds +) rabbits with it. Unfortunately it had not been looked after and it sometimes misfired a bit. If I could have got new parts for it I would have returned it to its former glory.
It was a true copy in nearly every way except the first 73s were in .22 short.

yes, i had one, and now have the 1873 carbine in 22 magnum, and the 66 [essentially identical] in 22lr
Sold Paco my 66 SRC in 22 lr:
to sum up they are beautiful, historic appearance, extreme fun, and quite accurate;
if the price is good, you will never regret it.
i have tang sights on mine, and they are great guns to carry and shoot!
if you dont want it, someone else here will!

Re: Uberti 73 winchester in 22lr
About 10 years ago, I asked Uberti if they still made these 66's and 73's in 22 LR and 22 Mag. They said that they do from "time to time". Since then. these have been in their catalogs "from time to time". So, keep your eyes peeled and hopefully when you get a hankering for one, it will be in Uberti's timeframe of the "from time to time"!

Re: Uberti 73 winchester in 22lr
The original 1873 Winchesters were produced in .22 Short and Long, only. No .22 LR '73s were ever built as production guns. It is said that a very few were made in .22 WCF, but I have yet to actually see one. The .22 WCF cartridge is just a skosh long for the '73 action.

Re: Uberti 73 winchester in 22lr
I have an original 1873 rimfire in either the short or long configuration
a .22 magnum sits on top of the brass carrier, slips behind the extractor, travels up & down just fine.
I thought ( perhaps erroneously ) that it was a Winchester propriatary .22 rimfire.
I don't have any shorts or longs to try.

Perhaps the 22 Extra Long? I don't think any original '73s were made in WRF.mescalero1 wrote:I thought ( perhaps erroneously ) that it was a Winchester propriatary .22 rimfire.

Re: Uberti 73 winchester in 22lr
The Model 1873 was not produced in either .22 Extra Long or WRF. The EL was made for a short time in the Model 1885 Single Shot and many were chambered in both WRF and LR.

I have a Uberti 1866 carbine in 22LR, and it is a very accurate little rifle. The Uberti 73 in 22lr is a rare bird. I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Re: Uberti 73 winchester in 22lr
I believe the 22 Extra Long was a special order item for the 1873. Madis' Winchester Book has a picture of a special '73 with a length selector on the elevator for switching between the Short, Long, and Extra Long (page 200). I've only ever seen a picture of one '73 marked for Extra Long and it was engraved as well ... hence, probably a special order. I've read that the Extra Long held 6 grains of BP compared to the 5 of the Long and the 3 of the Short. The Extra Long was therefore not the great leap above the Long as the Long was above the Short.Mike D. wrote:The Model 1873 was not produced in either .22 Extra Long or WRF.
I've seen 22 WCF marked '85s but not 22 Extra Longs ... but we don't get much of "the good stuff" at gun shows here in Florida. When we do, it's usually one of the collectors that travels around the country.

My Uberti 73 and the 9422 that replaced it. Like I said the 73 was accurate and fun but needed TLC. It is still for sale at the Portsmouth Gun Centre for £200.

Re: Uberti 73 winchester in 22lr '' PICS ADDED''
I have seen that picture in Madis' book, but don't qualify that particular rifle as a production gun. Most weird and extremely unusual Winchesters originated as special made guns for employees and are essentially one off examples. That practice continued until not too few years ago. One thing about Winchester is that you never know exactly what they decided to turn out on a given day. Guns without serial numbers and/or in unusual calibers and configurations have turned up from time to time. That is what makes the search so much fun.

I was thinking on maybe purchasing another side plate with the loading gate just to make it look like a standard 1873.

'course the 1873's in 22 did not have a loading gate, they were also tube fed like yours.barbarossa wrote:I was thinking on maybe purchasing another side plate with the loading gate just to make it look like a standard 1873.
Jeff
the only side loading 22 lever gun that i know about was the early model 1891 marlin,
and you probably need one of those also!

I thought about doing that, even though the original 73 .22 had no loading gate, in the end I couldn't even get a set of new screws for it.barbarossa wrote:I was thinking on maybe purchasing another side plate with the loading gate just to make it look like a standard 1873.
