The last of the Brazillian Pumas are in the pipeline........
Taurus has bought Rossi, and will be the distributor of the Rossi 92 copy.
Puma will be made in Italy, hopefully without the safety atop the bolt.
More details as i get them.

No safety hopefully? Hmmm, would that make my post-safety a pre-post-pre safety?

If these walls could talk, I'd listen to the floor.

Good news as far as I'm concerned. I've never liked those safeties.

I thought labor was cheaper in Brazil, and the metallurgy actually superior to so we may be getting a inferior product and paying more. I can't wait to hear Steve Young's input on this.

I thought Rossi had a better reputation for consistant quality while Taurus was pretty ordinary so the change would be for the worse not better.

Maybe this is why they (LSI) can't get a barrel to repair my 44 mag Puma.

Jeff, Mic told me the same thing about a week ago. Rossi's quality control is just aweful, so while Taurus has its own problems with quality control and customer service regarding its warrenties, this can be a real opportunity for "product improvement" for Rossi! I'm curious if they will still make Pumas in 454 Casull.

Gents,
Here are some stories on the acquisition:
The press release:
http://www.gunreports.com/news/handguns ... 790-1.html
A more complete story:
http://www.downrange.tv/artman2/publish ... /299.shtml
"Late yesterday, Forjas Taurus, S.A. announced the acquisition of the manufacturing and distribution rights for all Rossi products, including the Model 92 lever-action rifle from Rossi Firearms, S.A.
The deal is not, however, an acquisition of the business entity, only the manufacturing and distribution rights. In essence, a transaction of this type is commonly known in the investment world as an "equity-only purchase" - strictly the assets of value, not the business operating system. Taurus officials, however, say that no Rossi positions will be impacted by the purchase.
For more than a decade, Taurus has been working closely with Rossi, and it appears this agreement is the formalization of a deal. This acquisition I'm told, will bring Rossi significant assistance in the marketplace, as well as needed assistance in research and development.
For Taurus, the acquisition brings an instant presence into the world of black powder muzzleloading rifles as well as the dominant presence in the youth market via Rossi's highly-adaptable matched-set youth rifles. Their Trifecta, for example, enables a shooter to have a youth-sized rifle in .22 rimfire for initial shooting, .243 Winchester for the first hunting experiences, and 20-gauge shotgun for shotgunning. Carrying a suggested retail price from $299 to $329, it's an affordable option for parents, grandparents or anyone looking to start kids into shooting sports with their own gun at a price that doesn't break the bank.
"We have enjoyed our association with Rossi USA for the past 10 years and have helped with its dramatic growth in U.S. sales over the past several years", says Bob Morrison, President and CEO of Taurus International, "I look forward to the continuation of current product production and rapid development of new and innovative models to be introduced in the near future."
Taurus International and BrazTech International will continue to operate as two separate divisions adds Morrison, with shipping, sales and operations being performed out of the U.S. headquarters in Miami. Production of Rossi Firearms will continue, uninterrupted at Forjas Taurus' facilities in São Leopoldo, Brazil. All current Rossi staff will be retained.
Beginning as a small tool manufacturer in Porto Alegre, Brazil over sixty years ago, Taurus has grown into a diversified, international company and one of the world's leading small arms manufacturers. Rossi began with the founding of the company in 1889 by Amadeo Rossi. In December of 1997 BrazTech International L.C. was created as the exclusive importer of Rossi handguns, single-shot rifles, shotguns and muzzleloaders in North America. "

Re: The last of the Brazillian Pumas are in the pipeline........
I would have to respectfully disagree with O.I. as Rossi's tolerances and quality control simply sucks (no offense, O.I.!). Taurus is not very much better, but they can be very good guns from time to time. Just hand inspect them before you buy them! I was hoping the new arrangement might improve quality control at Rossi, but now I am very doubtful of that.

Re: The last of the Brazillian Pumas are in the pipeline........
The important words are "uninterrupted production".
Besides, the reason to buy a Rossi 92 is to send it to NKJ first.
It's the continuing availability of the base platform at a reasonable price that is most important to me
