Got my Cimarron 1892 SRC 357 back today.

Post by rangerider7 »

I sent it back to Cimarron because it would jam now and then. They had me send it to their gunsmith to slick it up. I will let y'all know how it shoots as soon as IKE is gone. They did not charge me for the work. I stopped by a small gun show today and traded for an old Savage over and under 222-20 gauge. It will be great for the grand kids and me, coyote and turkey hunting.

Good luck with gettin' the '92 back in good workin' order. Have fun with the Savage. Friend of mine had one and we'd spent many an hour hunting coyotes with it in hills around Camp Pendleton.

Good to hear you got your 92 lined out, those .357's are really great. I reckon that I need to get my Savage 24 out of the safe and get a picture to post, it is a 30-30/20gauge.

Nice looking combo you've got there...Beautiful weapons. Would love to get a Colt 45LC to go with my 1892 Winchester Trapper and a nice holster to go with it. On the want list for now...been putting money into my British Motorcycles all summer...might sell a couple of them someday. Buy me a nice Colt SA... :)

I took it out today and it shot 357 great, 38 special not so well. I don't need it to shoot 38 special anyway but it does make me feel "why not". That's the way it goes. I went to put the target up to sight it in. As I was putting up the target I noticed something moving in the tire below the Target that helps hold up the flat that I put the target on. It was a rattler. I went and got my 357 revolver and shot it "twice". I went ahead and put it up and sighted it in. I went back to get the snake out of the tire and found that I had shot two rattlers. One was a big one about 5 feet long the other was smaller about 4 feet. I decided to take it to the house! Not the snakes me!

Rangerider7, Glad the rifle is working for you, it's a nice looking rifle. Also glad you saw the rattlers before they saw you. If you don't mind saying, where did you acquire that Belt and holster? That's some nice lookin' gun leather! :D

SmokeEater2, the holster is from Wayne Zurl and the cartridge money belt is from Texas Jacks. Both websites you can find on Google. They are very well made. TJ keeps that model on hand. Zurl probably will need to make the holster for you. I call it the llano model, I'm not sure what he called it but it could have been "jock strap". The holster cost about 65.00 and the belt is about 150.00. I hope this helps.

Are the .38's lead and the .357's jacketed? That combo can cause accuracy issues. Another potential problem is the bullet jump into the rifling with the shorter case. A tenth of an inch is a long way to launch a bullet and any tilt can adversely affect accuracy. Most manuals recommend handloading for .38 velocities in the longer case rather than using .38 cases.
