Searching for a Tang Sight for silhouette
I was recently given a Winchester 92 in 32-20 from my wife's uncle. I shoot a great deal of cowboy silhouette and would like to equip this gun to shoot. SInce the gun is in excellent condition, I have no interest in drilling the receiver and want to find a tang sight that is adjustabe for elevation. Are there any currently manufactured tang sights that would work for my purposes? Otherwise, I'm looking at vintage sights and the prices are rather scary. Do any of the tang sights accept different aperatures, and can they be raised and lowered for the various target distances since I don't like to hold high and low. I am familiar with receiver sights and use the Redfield 75 a great deal on my other silhouette guns, but this is a venture into unchartered waters for me. Thanks for all your help.

You could get a Lyman or a Marbles, (both available from a varity of sources), or from Jeff's Outfitters, the low cost alternative.

Re: Searching for a Tang Sight for silhouette
I'm well satisfied with the Marble's that I use on my Marlin 39A and 1894CL. This looks like the one for a Win 92.

They're not cheap but Midway has them on sale for $99.99 fairly often.
I'm not familiar with the Lyman sight.

NC PA, do you shoot at Tiadaghton? I was up for the PC and SCR states yesterday.
Good luck with your search.
PS: it looks like Griff is quicker on the draw than I am.

The Marbles has windage adjustment and click adjustments. The Lyman does not or did not unless they redesigned it.

Taurus also makes a less expensive alternative.
They are listed on their site as fitting their guns; I'm not sure which would fit a 92.

I use the Marble's sights and they are fine. Not cheap, though. A good place to get them is Brownell's.

El Chivo,
I heard somebody killed a buck in that canyon we were looking down at in the burn where we turned around on 33. Deal Canyon and Deal Camp is it on the map.

Marbles - 4 sure. Hands down. I have both Lyman and Marbles and you have to shim the Lyman to get it reasonably centered. Here's the Marbles on my 94 30-30AI:

It comes with 3 different apertures - you will want to use the target aperture for silhouette. You do have to order the longer tang screw and front screw separate though.
And - regardless of which, you are going to need and drill and tap the tang for the forward screw...

You need precise settings and only the Marbles is click adjustable. Guessing your settings will cause you too much frustration and missed targets.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Re: Searching for a Tang Sight for silhouette
I have 4 silhouette rifles and they all wear a Marble's. They are a quality item with repeatable click adjustable settings, which you simply MUST have to be successful in silhouette. I have a Taurus tang sight and it is no good, only would be OK if you didnt have to adjust it and it changes elevation settings every time you fold it down. I have a Lyman tang sight and it is OK but has no windage adjustment.
Even though the Marbles tang sights come with 2 screws and you are supposed to drill and tap an additional hole in your tang for one, two of my rifles I only used the screw to replace the original tang screw and left the other hole blank. Works fine.
PS, now if you order a Marbles tang sight, you must also order the screws for an additional $6.00 or so, they no longer include them.
