did the deal: bought a Marlin in .375Winchester

Post by new pig hunter »

spotted a new and unfired Marlin 375 lever action last week in Gunbroker. The seller is a small shop in Ventura, CA which isn't too far away from where I live. And being as the rifle was new and unfired, and the asking price was $500, last Friday I called the seller and agreed to buy it. And about an hour ago I was in Ventura signing the paperwork.

So it was a great day: I stopped by my dad's house and he jumped in the car. We drove to the Camarillo Airport Cafe for lunch, then on over to the gun shop.

And I'll do the same thing in two weeks when I go pick it up.

Cheers and Happy Shooting,

Carl

Two weeks?

Good grief.

+1.

I guess I am just going to stick with NM because when you buy a gun, pass the NICS, you carry it home within usually 30 seconds after the dealer hangs up the phone.

Nice find by the way. I didn't know marlin made a .375win.

I'm happy for you that you found this rifle, I have one that is virtually like brand new myself. But seeing that 2 week wait in California for such a common gun, it reminds me why I said goodbye to my home state of California back in 1974, never to return. Congrats anyhow.

I have one I bought new when they first came out. It sports a Weaver K4-1 scope. They're sweet little rock crushers; I've carried mine on several hunts, but was always unsuccessful. I may have to get it out and give it some more opportunities. :D Congrats on your soon to be "new-to-you" rifle, I'm sure you'll love it!

Guns are very dangerous - the only way to make them less dangerous is to have the gunshop keep them for 10 days after they are sold.

Used guns are even more dangerous. They must be held for 30 days after the gunshop gets them. The 10 days can run concurrently but if you buy it on the 30th day or after there is apparently a reerruption of dangerosity because then you must add the 10 days.

You have to not question this because it was thought up by the dems who also believe two guys with no military service and no experience running anything except a senate staff and a campaign have more "experience" than a woman who has run a city, a state, a fishing business, a family etc. And they are backed up by others with no military service like Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, And a host of other talking heads like Tom Brokaw who said "Alaska is small state".

I call them Democratic Chauvinist Pigs.

I hope that you are now enlightened enough to not question the wisdom of these waiting periods.

And remember - Barock - barry to you - claims to have visted 57 states with only two to go.

o.s.o.k.,

Thanks Much for imbedding that picture .....

waiting around a few days to take delivery doesn't bother me ..... well, it does for a couple of reasons, but hey, I hate "them" just as much as "they" hate me, and right now "they" have the legislative juice and I don't.

Cheers,

Carl

Carl,
As long as I can remember "they've" had the Legislative juice. When they were considering that this

met the criteria for inclusion as a "device that holds more than 7 rounds designed to load a firearm" I knew the legislature was full of idiots, their staffs were full of imbeciles and that the battle was lost; so I accepted a position in TX. Soyanora CA.

Did I read somewhere in this forum the other day that some guys shoot the .38-55 in .375 rifles?

Nice rifle by the way. When I buy a gun that I don't have much gear for (i.e., receiver sight, magazines, scope mounts, etc.), I use the 10-day waiting period to order those parts.

Hey, ya gotta deal with the laws where ya live. That's just the way it goes. Yes, CA makes you wait for 10-days to take delivery of a gun but once you get it, you've got it without any follow-up requirements through the years like some states that require a renewal of a gun permit -- not a CCW but a permit to own a gun. And CA figures that we are responsible enough to hunt state-wide with rifles and doesn't restrict us to shotguns, etc..

Modoc Ed,

yes, I also shoot .38-55 in my .375. Got the word a few years ago from Paco that it was OK to do so. The 375 is like having two rifles in one.

Alright let me straighten you out right now :D

Optimum is two have two of the SAME rifle to shoot two different loads

Why do you think I have eight 444's (for eight different bullets) with hopefully a couple more on the way , and six 45-70's and on and on and on and on

Heck as it is now you NEED a pair of Marlin 375's ! One for jacketed bullets and another for cast bullets :!:
Well at least thats what I did

All of my BS aside I am sure you will enjoy your rifle with full blast 375 loads or more moderate 38-55 loads !

Having killed deer with a 38-55 and both my 375's I can attest to the abilities of either

LOL indeed .....

I actually have 3 rifles in .375 Winchester caliber: one Winchester BigBore94 and two Marlin 375's.

The Winchester is dedicated solely to .375 .... already sighted-in for hunting.
One Marlin is dedicated solely to .375 .... already sighted-in for hunting.
The other Marlin will be dedicated to .38-55.

If you're simple like me life can be simple.

Out of my two Marlin 375's I have one dedicated to Ranch Dog's cast bullet offerings . Not sure what ur thoughts about casting are, but if you do or should decide you would like to cast your own bullets. You might want to give Ranch Dog's website a look see !

www.ranchdogmolds.com

He will have a 379-235GC bullet mould available for sale very soon I think !

In the past he had made a 379-210GC mould that has shot nicely in my Marlin 375 ! Matter of fact it works great for deer ! As I killed a 7 pointer with it last season .

This coming season I have the same Marlin sighted in with his 379-235GC bullet and it should do a fine job as well !
