336 marlin 30-30

Post by brucew44guns »

Anyone ever loaded a Marlin 30:30, lever one in to the chamber, fire, then lever the next round only to find that the second cartridge had gone farther back than it's supposed to, pushed the loading gate flap outward, jammed things up so that the lever could not cycle or open up again due to the cartridge wedged into that loading gate? I took out the magazine spring, and got the problem cartridge out that way. Must be some serious worn parts inside.
To hell with them fellas, buzzards gotta eat same as the worms.

That is not GOOD! Strip her down and check it out. Usually repairs are simple enough and parts are readily available. Good luck.

bruce,

It could also be a loose loading gate screw. The loading gate is also a guide for the cartridge. If it moves outward the cartridge will go places it shouldn't.

Do yourself a favor, and avoid the angina - spend $13 for a new loading gate, and install it.

Marlin 336 loading gates are sprung/arched, and held shut by the attaching screw.
Some lose their spring tension, and hold slightly away/off the inside of the right receiver wall, fouling the carrier, etc.
