OT Range Report: Muy Bueno Nuevo Vaquero .45

Post by Pete44ru »

I boughten this Ruger last week, brandy new (and started to make wood grips fer it last night):

Then, this morning, I put three cylinders full ( @ 5/per) of 250gr lead RNFP Cowboy loads through it, at the factory-recommended 15yds:

So far, so good ! Now, when I get done with the grips, I think I'm gonna make a holster fer it, too.

That's great Pete, congratulations on the new member of the family. I have the 5 1/2" stainless in .45 and that's all I shoot now. I have a strongbox full of my "cop" guns, but they mostly just sit, except for the Officer's Model which is my primary carry. What are are you using to push the 250gn pill? I use 5.8gn Trail Boss for range and 8gn Unique for social work...
Tom

Oh, please post photos of those grips when finished. I've been toying with the idea of replacing mine, but sure like the way the factory fit my hand...

Ahhhh Pete, at 15 yds ( 45 feet - 540 inches ) you shoulda put um all in one hole.

Just teasing you. I've been thinking on getting one of those too. Just don't have the wampum for it.

I like mine too Pete! Made me love the format so much (I'd been using mostly DA guns) I'm heavy into SAs now.

Thanks, fellas !

I didn't have the wampum, either, Joe - as I just sold a few gunz to pay an unexpected expense.

But, then...................My wife sorta agitated, for me to take her gambling on our Anniversary last week - and then suggested I actually play one of them slot machines, insteada just hanging around whilst she played.

Long story short, I put in a buck, pulled the handle, and hit a jackpot !
So - I cashed out, and bought the Vaquero, insteada giving the $$$ back to the Indians. The Mrs was a bit miffed, but she got over it.

Though the SA I use now, an Uberti made clone, carries 5 at a time (and I like it that way), I probably would give in to the temptation of the modern age and put 6 in a Vaquero.

Wow! Talk about good luck - glad to hear you pulled out the money and bought something instead of feeding machines.

Nice new gun - I love my Blackhawk 45

Very nice. I have gone to carrying my USFA in .45 alot now. I love shooting it. I'm carrying it in my simply rugged holster I got on the levergun safari. When not carrrying it, I have started using it for my bed side gun and going out in the truck gun, and the going to see the mule gun. I use 8 grain of unique to throw that fat pill too. I like yours alot. Nice shooting. Looking forward to the finished grips and holster pics
