OT - Wm. Malcolm scopes, any experience

I'm looking at the Wm. Malcolm scopes and would like to hear anyone's experience with them.

The one Hi - Lux sells is made in China I believe and not bad for $400 !

However for my own personal use I would prefer the one made by Montana Vintage Arms ! However this one is about $1000 !

One of my buddies here at our local gunclub bought the Hi-Lux for his C Sharps , but wasn't satisfied when he saw the made in China . So shortly there after he ordered one from MVA and has been happy ever since !

He sold the Hi-Lux to another member here at our club and I have shot using them both ! Neither is bad . But I just seem to like the MVA better but then at 2.5 times the price what would you expect .

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm surprised we don't have more people here shooting scopes. The repros are more than period correct, the originals were being put on Sharps.

I've checked the Shiloh Forum and like most anything, there's a debate on whether one should just buy an MVA, at more than double the price, or the Malcolm. Most say buy the MVA and be done with it, but I don't like how the scope slides in the mounts. I'd more than likely use it for hunting and I don't want anything moving around other than my thumb for the hammer or my finger for the trigger. Plus, some were saying they didn't know if the mounts would hold up to hunting.

I wanted to scope a couple of old rifles with something that would not require any extra holes drilled in them..So that left out the Malcom types... I wanted something that most folks would see as old timey.. IOW a straight small diameter tube ..( I know the pros around here won't see it a such,& hate scopes anyhow but oh well) I came up with this..I use the holes for the rear sight & a modified mount..everything on the gun stays original & I can see! Late 1930s Weaver 330 in Redfield Jr. mount & rings

I have two of the Malcolm scopes, one on a Chaparral 1876 and one on a High Wall. I use them for hunting and general shooting. They are good scopes for those purposes. I'm also a BPCR silhouetter shooter and for that I wouldn't consider anything but an MVA, although I dont' have one (yet).
