Approximately 2,700.000. I do not know the exact number. Pre '64's have two carrier (lifter) screws, post '64, one.

The easiest way is to open the action, and look down inside at the top of the lifter/carrier.
Pre-64's have machined carriers.
65-71's have flat, stamped-out, sheet metal carriers.
71-06 have cast carriers that look like the pre-64 machined carrier, but have a mold seam running front-to-back, down the center of the top.

When I am in a shop and see several in a rack with only the bottom showing, I look at the lower receiver edges. Post-64 edges are almost square, pre-64 are beveled about 1/8 inch. I've never read about this difference but it hasn't failed me yet.

Also with the '64 to '82 mdl 94s, when you open the action and shine a light down into it, you'll see a purplish color to the inside steel. The serial number cut-off for pre-64s is closer to 2,586,000 than 2.7mil. According to armscollectors.com 2,586,000 is 1963 and 2586001 is 1964.
My newest pre-64 is 2585xxx

DAn,
Go to the "ONE STICKY" at the top of the page, then drop down to #19 I think
{ http://onesticky.levergunscommunity.com ... sters.html }
and you'll find a pictorial on how to tell the difference between the pre and the post 64 Win 94s.
