The second 88 is in a reasonable price range to me. I know where a guy can get a prety nice .284 for 1500.00. I don't see what makes the 1st rifle so valuable.
But I admit I am not familiar with the scope on it or the mounts.
But as a hunter there is no scope mount set up that is worth a whole lot of money except on a dangerous game rifle with back up sights.
I think I overpaid a little for my somewhat beat up old 88,308 with an equaly old Bushnell scope cheif 2.5X8 , for 600.00. But It shoots great.

That rifle is way, way overpriced. In addition to the pad, the stock has been refinished. The 1960 Winchester finish was a dull oil, not the sheen it has now. That guts it as a collector item and puts it in the $400 to $600 shooter grade. That obsolete Kraut scope might be worth $150.00. Throw in another $100.00 or so for the mounts and you have maybe $850 to $950 worth of rifle and glass. Those are generous figures, I would not give a nickle more than $750 for the "hull darn thang".
Eight months ago I bought a very good 88 (.308) with scope for $450. The year before I bought another for $500.00, also with scope.
The stock has been fitted with a butt pad and the front sight hood is missing. For that kinda of money it would have to be brand new pristine in the box and signed by Douglas Murray
I have one built in 1957 in .308 win. I paid $700 for it early last year. It has a limbsaver pad and I just put on a new leopold 3X9. I have to sight it in tomorrow. They have a reputation for fussey triggers, I notice mine is a little heavy.
