A great range day, OT a little

Post by jnyork »

Our 14 year old granddaughter is visiting us from Oregon so we are taking her around showing her the sights and generally having a great time.

Today we went out to my little personal range and gave her Introduction to Handguns, she had fired a rifle a couple of times but never a handgun. After the usual safety indoctrination, parts of the gun, etc., we proceded to shoot some. First with a Ruger Single Six off the bench, after a couple or three cylinders full she was hold the black pretty well on the standard 25 yard bulleseye target. Then we went to the S&W K-22, which she liked better and did better with. Then we did some offhand, which of course she didnt do quite so hot but was very pleased that she hit the paper more often than not. :D

Then we moved the target in to 7 yards and did some offhand double action on a B-27 target with the K-22, she did pretty well there. Then I got out the Taurus .45 Auto and showed her how to load the mag, how to operate the gun, the safeties, the mag release, etc. Should not have done that!! :o At 7 yards on the B-27 target offhand she was able to keep them in the 8 ring and ran me completely out of ammo, couldnt hardly get her shut off, she was having so much fun. We ran 3 mags full practicing bringing the gun up and firing two shots rapidfire and she still held the 8 or better!! She is still babbling about it this evening. :D :D

I fear I have created a monster!! Her Dad better go stock up on ammo.

LOL!

I had a similar experience with my daughter-in-law.

Danged-near didn't get my "black rifle" back!

Finally had to tell her she was gonna have to buy her own 7.62NATO in the future!

It's a good feeling to introduce new shooters to the sport, ain't it!

Excellent! We all need to make it a personal goal each year to each someone to shoot, and get them to understand why we love doing so.

I'm depressed...

Spent about $500 buying a Savage LH MarkII for the neice who has been
shooting my 1929 Win M52 these past couple months. We were supposed
to go to the range and check out the sights yesterday. She didn't call me
but I know she was busy this past weekend. She wants to go rabbit hunting
and is very good off a rest so she will hunt kneeling/sitting with a tall bipod.

She also has an interest in shooting handguns. I have the 1946 IJ 22 target
revolver, bro's 32 H&R Single Six and paid for a S&W 44 Special today. When
the 44 comes in I will take her to the range with the handguns. BTW she is
16 and we live in Kalifornia.

BTW it's a great feeling teaching a youngster, everone should do it!

Great! One day she may be a "pro gun mom" and we need as many of them as we can get!! :D

But I always hate the way most of the females I have taught to shoot, end up out shooting me!

Ain't it the truth,

Not a woman in my family that had a problem shooting,
us men all have the problem as they would always
outshoot us.
