Colt 1911 Info Needed

Post by 86er »

Today I received a 45 ACP that has the following markings:

Left side:

Colt PT FA MFG. Co.
Hartford, CT USA
United States Property
Patented APR 20, 1897, SEPT 9, 1902
DEC 19, 1905 FEB 14, 1911, AUG 19 1913

Right Side:

MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY
No. 2612XX

It is a matte blue 5" with hard brown plastic grips and a lanyard ring. It has two magazines that both say on the bottom COLT 45 AUTO. Fixed dovetailed sights.

Anybody know the Vintage of this and any other information?

THAT IS A STANDARD ARMY ISSUE 45ACP PISTOL MADE IN THE MID 19TEENS BEFORE THE 1911A1's CAME FORTH IN THE EARLY 1920's.
THE STOCKS ARE REPLACEMENTS.
IF THE MAGAZINES ARE ORIGINAL I THINK THEY'D BE TWO TONE, WHILE ON TOP, BLUED ON THE BOTTOM HALF....BUT NOW I CANNOT REMEMBER FOR SURE.
LET IT BE KNOWN FAR AND WIDE THAT A LOT OF SHOOTING WILL BEND THOSE PISTOLS A BIT AS THEY WERE MADE RELATIVELY SOFT TO BEND AND NOT BREAK. SUCH IS THE SAME WITH THE CURRENT 1911A1's ALL OF WHICH THAT ARE STILL IN THE INVENTORY HAVE BEEN REBUILT ON AN AVERAGE OF SIX[6] TIMES A PIECE OVER THE PAST DECADES.
RIDE, SHOOT STRAIGHT, AND SPEAK THE TRUTH

Terry is correct on the mags, The older originals have the two tone finishes. Those alone can fetch a pretty penny
Break on through to the other side!!!

The serial number dates it to 1918.

Here's one that just sold, also from 1918, that you can compare yours to.

I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
