I have to admit, I really like the looks of that one.

I had a chance to buy one a few years ago. I didn't think it was factory, so I passed on it. :x

I was just going to get mine reblued but, judging from the way that one looks, I think I'll be sending mine off for a "Metalife" finish instead. :D

Maybe a limited production for one of the distributors?

It certainly looks very nice. I don't think I have ever heard of brushed chrome as a gun finish.

A long time ago, over a year or so there was a thread on this site to have a group by of a special made leveraction. I think it was when the word leaked out that Winchester was closing. Do any of you remember what gun was choosen? What ever happened to that?

Hobie, do you recall what happened?

First one I've seen too, I like it. Ever since Taffin did an article on a Big Bore 94 by Keith DeHart in brushed chrome I've wanted to send my old beat up 336RC (cut to 16" by bubba) for a hard chrome finish. IIRC, industrial hard chrome (not the same as decorative chrome plating) is about four times more corrosion resistant than stainless steel with a much higher surface hardness.

IIRC, those were made in the late '80s. A friend of mine (fellow founder of our SASS club) had one in .45 Colt. Tho' that one had to be done after.... ???? '93 when the cross-bolt safety was added. USRA kept fairly poor records of it's variations, etc.

Well, I just contacted the "Metalife" folks, and was told $145.00 which includes shipping back to me. The gent told me a 30-day turnaround time.

I'm thinking I've got one or two others for them to do.

The whole idea died on the vine.

This one is pretty neat, I've never seen another one either. I'm not a fan of the finish, but if one got it cheaply enough, it would be an excellent investment.

Hobie

With decent surface prep that kind of finish would look pretty good on some of the beaters forum members have come up with lately.
I would prefer something a bit more dull though. More of a bead blasted mat finish.

My wife said she kind of liked that one. But not a $1050 worth.
