As I said before, I'm in Midland. I guess that puts me about 5 hrs from Dallas. I guess that is about 350 miles.

What about something west of Weatherford? There's a range out near Graham... sorry I don't know the details as the only time I went there for a BPCR match, it was scrubbed because of wildfires. Oh yea, same time of year... :D

Griff;
A friend of mine shoots that Graham range monthly with his BP .45 - 70. I will call him and get some details.

Here is some info on some ranges in the Dallas area:
1. At Graham, Tx Membership is $40/year. Excerpt from a members' description follows:

"The Graham Rifle and Pistol Club is located just west of town on Gun Range road on 40 acres. It is set up for Blackpowder silhouette with steel targets at 200, 300, and 500 meters. There are about 20 firing positions on the Blackpowder range. Matches are held monthly. We also have a 100, 200, and 300 yard rifle range with four benches for sight-in, target shooting and a 25 yard pistol range. There is also a single bench on the 50 yard sight-in range.

The club membership is limited to 150 and guests need to be with a club member to shoot on the range."

2. . Dalllas muzzleloading club has a range south of Dallas, I think near Ennis. I have shot blackpowder there and smokeless too as a guest some years ago. A 100 yard range with several shooting positions. Also can set up targets closer in for pistols. Must be with a member to use.

3. There is a range on H380 east of Farmersville that has signs on the side of the highway. I have never been there, but will drive over tomorrow and check it out.

IMHO, of the above, 1 and 2 would be be suitable for a casual group shoot. I will report on 3. after checking it out.

I am trying to get time off, and I'll keep listening and watching. It sounds like fun.

If it ends up being in the DFW area, we should see if any Oklahoma, or even Arkansas, folks can make it, as well.

Now for the skinny on the range on HW 380 between Farmersville and Greenville:
This is the Adrenaline Proving Ground http://www.apgtraining.com/index.asp
which specializes in military and police training. However they do have shooting ranges .
The rifle range has three benches and you can shoot at 50, 100, 200, 300 yards. You can also shoot pistols there is you lease/rent the whole range for the day
I told the owner of our plan for a group shoot and he said with two weeks notice, he can block off the rifle range for us for a day for $150.

Take a look at the link and then add this option to the list of possibles.

Is the National Forest one of the shotgun only areas?
Didn't mean to hijack the thread - but nobody answered this - the TX national forests are same basic rules as the rest of the state - rifle hunting is fine.

Prob need to start another thread on the hunting thing.

If the shoot ends up near Dallas, I'm prob out of this one - but no prob - we can always do one further south too!

The Central Texas Silhouette range can take us the 2nd weekend of October. We would be shooting with the cowboy long range guys and handgun silhouette shooters. The range is just outside New Braunfels. There are some camp grounds around the area.
