OT: New Rifle Introducted For '08

Post by Pete44ru »

For those of us suffering with multiple inflictions of mannlicher-itis & 6.5-Swedism:

Lipsey's has introduced this year's Limited Edition:

A Ruger stainless M-77 RSI (International/mannlicher-stocked) carbine in 6.5x55.

Very Nice!
But why stainless?

To hazard a guess: All-weather usage?

It would look nicer with a black laminate stock, IMO.

Shhhhh! If my blued walnut stocked rifles knew that, they would now longer want to go out in the rain and snow.

Cool. But why an 18" barrel? with that round I would want something with a longer pipe.

I think the Ruger short-barrelled carbines are at their best with a caliber in the .243 to 7mm range...the Swedish 6.5 is a fantastic round in a carbine--I'm still looking for a nice 94 mauser, I wouldn't change a thing about it, a perfect example of a military carbine that got it right the first time around.

But all the same...

I'd like the Ruger M77 MkII in stainless...with full-length synthetic mannlicher-style stock...in .35 0r .400 Whelen. I know you can put a scope on the mannlicher-stocked guns but they are so much better looking with just iron sights. And an iron-sighted gun should have a bone-crunching meduim-range round to go with it.

WOW about $675 wholesale if Lipsey's does their MSRP like everybody else...

I'd really like to get this but another gun or two would have to be sacrificed.....
