I hope you didn't hurt anyone with those buttons popping off your shirt.
Congratulations to both of you, and the rest of the family as well.

You have a right to be proud. Marine Corps boot is nothing to sneeze at.
Did he tell you how many dropped from his platoon? We lost exactly half, started at 104 and graduated 52.

Re: OT - What can I say?
They've toned things down quite a bit. I don't think they lost anyone, although a couple of the drill instructors got in trouble for being too hard on the kids. One bedwetting excuse for a person reported a drill instructor for "abuse", something that 40 years ago would have been normal, or mild, in training. The DI got investigated and docked a half month's pay. He got the kid good though. When he came back to the platoon he told him, "I'm going to REALLY muck you up. You're gonna pay tonight!" and asked for volunteers to serve as witnesses. The kid was so messed up by the threat (not to mention seeing all the platoon volunteer to witness on behalf of the DI) that he didn't sleep that night. And the DI never went near him - the threat alone was enough to do the job.kimwcook wrote:You have a right to be proud. Marine Corps boot is nothing to sneeze at.

Tim's on the plane to San Diego as I type this. Reporting today for MCT. Next month he'll be heading to MOS school. We sure enjoyed the few days he was here with us. And as I mentioned elsewhere, I like what the USMC did with him. He's a great kid and is becoming a great man, thanks in part to the polishing the Corps is doing in ways that aren't easy for a Dad to do.

Outstanding looking Marine. Congrats again Paul to you and him.

Good looking young man. Looks like you raised him right. But he looks so young. Did we look that young to our fathers?

Re: OT - What can I say?
You are right to be proud. He looks pretty good there. It would be nice if you could get a similar portrait of him each year on his anniversary of his Boot Camp graduation. Same pose and same type of uniform. I wish him the best and hope he does very well in all of his endevours. Good Luck also do you need any buttons or sewing materials to replaced popped buttons?

Yep, we did. Gives you some insight into their views of our "maturity" doesn't it?jeepnik wrote:Good looking young man. Looks like you raised him right. But he looks so young. Did we look that young to our fathers?
AmBraCol: You have every right to be proud. Anybody questioning the youth of America is choosing to look in the wrong places. Please thank him for his service!

Now there is a photo that brought immediate swelling in the throat, and pride in our country.
