Discouraged with Marlin 35 Rem
Some may remember my unhappiness over a buy from the AA site. I bought a supposedly "mint" gun only to find it had some problems.
Well, I've spent considerable time on it and it's still giving me fits.
Week before last I had a quick trip home and achance to shoot, I had 3 different bullets loaded with a "best guess" load of 4198.
I had 2 different cast and one jkt load. The dang thing put 8 out of 9 rds. in a 7up bottle at 50 yds offhand (3 rds per load) with newly installed reciever sights.
How am I supposed to choose a load and sight it in if the dang thing throws everything I put in it on target?

Life's just not fair, get used to it.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: Discouraged with Marlin 35 Rem
that really sucks. Can't get much good data that way. Perhaps you can look at penetration of that 7-up bottle? or how high or far it flew? or perhaps if you went to a coke can, you might get different worthwhile results!!! Anyway, I am really sorry for your problems.

Wanna sell it?
Re: Discouraged with Marlin 35 Rem
Your right that gun is just no good. I think you should send it to me so I can get it sorted out for you.

That is a serious problem. The 35 should've destroyed the target with first bullet strike.

Re: Discouraged with Marlin 35 Rem
Well, it seems your target is too big. Use a smaller and smaller target
until you start getting flyers with one of your reloads. At that point,
discard that reload and move on to a smaller target and repeat until
you get to one reload. That will be your most accurate load and you
should be shooting those aspirins instead of needing them to cure your
ammo quandry headache.

gon2shoot,
Dang, one of these days Marlin will have to do something about this. I purchased my 336 NIB in 1972, with the same problem. I worked up a few loads with the Speer .358" 180 grain FN, and IMR 3031. My groups were between 1 1/2 inches and 1 3/4 inches at 100 yards. I was so disappointed, I stopped there! I've been using the same load ever since. Fortunately, deer and black bear don't seem to know how badly I shoot!!

Bench it at 100 yds. Off hand is as much of a test of the shooter as the gun-but if it works an thats the range you will shoot, don't mess it up
