XS Lever Scout Mount

Post by cavebob »

Anyone put one of these on a Win 94AE
http://www.xssights.com/store/scope.html
Instructions say you end up with a permanent epoxy fit but I have heard you can get a satisfactory result using a release ugent [as when glass bedding] ???

Thanks

Why wouldn't you just use a regular mount on an AE?
Kind regards,

I have used the XS system on several Marlins. They provide a non permanent Loc-Tite type product bottle in each kit. Good Luck and hope this helps. 1886.

Same here.

You don't have to use the permanent epoxy. I've had one on my 450 Marlin for a couple years and have not had any problems. If it was going to shot loose I think that .450 would have done it by now.

I have an XS ordered for my 94AE/444Marlin as well.
I'm a big fan of scout rifles.

Although the XS instructions with the LeverScout mount for my new .450 Timber specified epoxying it to the barrel with the included tube of goop - I elected to go non-permanent, with AccraGlas & paste wax as the release agent.
The reason XS specified epoxying is to provide a perfect & tight fit for the mount on varying barrel receiver combinations - since the mount is designed for any Win M-94 with the rear sight dovetail approx. 4" from the front edge of the front of the receiver/ring.

I had no issues, for almost a year, then easily removed the mount & sold the rifle in 2003.
There was no trace of it's use, on the rifle, after removal.

He's got that gun cocked.

Anyhoo, I've been under the impression that a scout scope set-up is less desirable than a regular mount due to poorer light transmission of the IER scopes. Not a problem if you don't need it at first light or last light.

I have two Leupolds and a Burris scout scope and have not had an issue. Not saying that they are any better or worse than a standard scope/ mount. I just like them especially on a levergun. For me they work. Where I do most of my hunting there are antler restricions, min. 5 pt., and it helps if I have a little magnification for counting points. Especially in low light/ thick brush and cover. For me they are quicker than a standard scope in picking up a target and not much different than open sights. I would prefer plain old open sights but my eyes are as good as they used to be.

I think scout scopes are one of those things that you either love them or you don't.

Agreed - one either loves them or leaves them.

IMHO, they're like using a peep - but with magnification added and it's resultant clarity - when they're used used as intended, and not as a target sight.

Thanks for the posts
I have tang sights on my Marlin .38 CBC and Win Legacy 38.55 and a regular scope on my Marlin 45.70

2ndovc, thanks for your post! Do you find much difference in the optical
quality, brightness, or eye relief flexibility between the Leupolds and Burris?

Thanks,
John
