Need rifle load data for several calibers

Post by 40-65rl »

I am looking for load data for 38 special and 357 mag rifle using a 125 grain JHP bullet. I would like the 38 sp to be at less than 1200 FPS and the 357 load at 1500-1600 fps. Both loads will be used to shoot silhouettes out of an 1894 Marlin 24 inch Cowboy Limited. The 38 sp at all the pistol targets, out to 100 meters and the 357 out to turkeys at 150 meters (I'll use my 180 grain load for the rams) for the full size animals. I prefer Accurate powders, but will try others if they shoot well.

Also looking for load data for 357 mag for shooting a friend shooting silhouettes out of a 22 inch barrel. He was shooting PMC factory loads but the load has been discontiued and he cannot find the load data for this ammo. He has cronographed the load but all the data books I can find list 20 inch barrels and I not sure what the extra two inches of barrle length will do to the velocity. Anyone who has the old load data for PMC that would be all we need.

Thanks, Dick/40-65RL

Politicians and diapers both require frequent changing for the EXACT same reason!

EVERYTHING YOU'VE MENTIONED IS IN EVERY LOADING MANUAL PUBLISHED IN THE PAST TWENTY YEARS.

Welcome to the forum.

Terry is right. I don't know how long you've been shooting but a good collection of loading manuals is vital to reloading. (Bragging now - ) I've got manuals back to the 1930s and up to almost current. I've been collection them for quite a few years. I've got every Speer manual except #2 & 4 & 14. And I still use them.

Another source is the booklets the powder companies put out. Dupont / IMR used to have some really good .357 Mag loads in theirs. The loads put out now by Hodgdon are wimpy by comparison.
Alliant, formerly Hercules has toned down their loads as well.
EBay is your friend in this case. You can find all sorts of manuals there. But of course check out Midway, other on line sights and your friendly local gun shop.

Now, here is a load that will flat explode things when shot from a 18.5" Marlin 1894C:
From the Alliant 2002 data booklet:
CARTRIDGE: .357 Magnum - 5.6" barrel
BULLET: 125gr JHP
PRIMER: Fed #200
POWDER: 2400, 17.6grs
VELOCITY: 1810fps
PRESSURE: 31,800 PSI

I will tell you right from the start that from my S&W Mdl 28 this load is HOT! Too HOT actually as it the cases have to be pounded out. However my Old Model Ruger Blackhawk handles this load just fine.
My Marlin ( the one I used to have ) flat loved this load.

Start low and work up.

Any other loads you gotta find yourself.
