To shoot-or not to shoot

Post by gon2shoot »

I have a B92 centenial, unfired in the box. Now, I don't really NEED a 44mag lever, but I don't have one that I shoot.
Looking at the prices of new 44's that are $100 more than I have in the Browning makes me think maybe I oughta get it out of the box.
What do ya think? :?

How will you ever know if it really will shoot if you don't try it?

It wasn't made to be a paperweight, you know.

That poor gun is so unfulfilled...

Shoot it.

If you don't like .44 you could always swap out the barrel for a reamed-out .357 and shoot .357/44 B&D... (That's probably what I would do...)

I have ONE gun I haven't shot. It's a 1976 Winchester 94 Bi-Centennial Commemorative. NIB with all the papers. I took it out of the box to photograph it.

I have plenty of of .30-30s so it's not likely to "need" firing. If it were my only .30-30, I'd have already fired it. It certainly won't be the last .30-30 or Winchester 94 in my safe, so it's in no danger of being shot.

To date, the only Winchester commemorative to appreciate over its original cost are the 1981 John Wayne 94's. The rest can be had, usually for under their new MSRP. The new JW '92 commemorative might do the same, or could possibly spike or drop interest in the earlier version. Wish I had a crystal ball.

If you don't shoot a brand new gun you are only looking after it for someone that will. :?

Well ya see, it's an investment. Somthing to save for the grandkids.
Anybody that has self control should be able to handle it.
 I just ordered 500 rds of brass from midway (all my guns get their own brass)

I can see the kids looking wide-eyed with awe at Gandad's beautifully maintained Browning as they hear about his hunts with it.....

Maybe I'm just too old to understand the collectors mind. A tool to me is just a tool.
If it is an investment Bro, don't shoot it...but....if it is going to the kids, why not shoot the h*ll out of it, break it in & develope the loads the grandkids are going to need. Marks are signs of character, like wrinkles! :D
IMHO...your choice Pard!

Look, if the kids want money, they get money. If they want to go shooting, we go shooting. If they want money from my guns they have to wait until I'm dead and then it will be a stuff shoot. At least they'll go "shooting" one more time.

Hobie
