OT - Latest addition to the family

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Well, this is sure to get me banned from this website, knowing the distain many of you have for felines. Myself, I love most pets (except spiders of any kind). Especially love cats - little tigers to share the home. Have always had one or more up until 5 years ago - can't believe we waited so long, but I wanted the kids to enjoy having a kitten around.

Image

His name is "Stripes". The kids both wanted a cat for their birthdays (April and May); we told them not until school was out. Will take some time for the weiner-mutt to get used to; after all, she was bred to kill things just this size!

They waited patiently and when we decided last weekend to get one on Saturday, they used their heads. My sister had found this little fellow abandoned by her garage. She couldn't keep it, and none of the shelters would take it save one - and they told her that if it was not adopted out within 24 hours, they would put it down.

We saw a nice cat at the shelter in our town, which won't put any healthy animal down - even if they end up caring for it for it's natural life. We then went to my sister's and saw this one. My son told his sister that they should get this one - since the other one would be fine, and they would be saving this one's life. Made me very proud!

Of course, I know some of you are thinking "that would have been one less cat..."

Y.K.,

You done good. Rescuing a little critter like that is the way to do it.

We've got 6.5 cats now and that's down from the 12 we had about three years ago.
They got old and died.

That one looks like he's in kitten heaven. Purrrrrrrfectly contented.

PS: Shameless plug; my wife makes kitty tents. We got pics if you are interested.

Ysabel Kid - that's a really cute kitten :P . My wife and I both love cats (big and small) and we have one which doesn't go out at night, as we don't like the idea of it hunting wildlife.

J.Miller, I would love details of your 'kitty tents'

what a cutie....
theres only one thing wrong with playfull cute Kittens.....
they turn into lazy CATS....with a bad attitudes
We have two outdoor cats that we adopted...strays
that just hang around the back porch....trying to figure out
why the 2 dogs are inside....and they aint....I'm alergic to cats...
one is about 14....and when she lays in the yard full of leaves
she disappears! The younger cat is 5 or so, black and white
and keeps the yard clear of small critters...

Jay, I've got 2 cats myself, one is a female with stripes (Phoenix) like the one you have. She was found in the garage about 3 weeks after we moved in. The other is a 2 month old calico with long hair (Isis). We got her to keep the other company and to have another cat. She was given to us by a girl that Kristal works with, she was going to take he to a shelter, if she couldn't find her a home.

Well, Jay - I like cats... they taste like chicken!

That lil' guy looks a lot like Melchisedec, a cat I had way back when. Found him one night on my way home from a youth meeting. He was up on a post in the middle of a pasture mewing his head off. No idea how he got there or where he came from. We were studying the OT at the time and I've always had an affinity for picking non-common names for critters - so Melquisedec he became. It turned out to be an apt name because some time later he simply disappeared. Just like the Bible says of Melchisedec... no one knows where he came from or what happened to him. I wouldn't mind a cat around too much - but the wife, well I had to get an act of congress just to get the pup in the door... No way I'm trying for a cat.

Anyway, it looks like he's snuggling his way to the center of attention.

Mom has 7 cats. They are still alive solely due to my good nature. I will never, ever, have another cat.

Congrats on your new kitty. My Maui cat Lady Bird keeps the mice, lizards, cockroaches, and flies all in check in the vicinity, very useful critters they are. Waffles my 17n year old outside cat I inherited from Dad is useless as far as vermin control he being a total pacifist letting the doves by day, and toads by night eat all his catfood as he cheerfully watches, maybe he shares the same spirit of giving my Dad had. :D

I have a heard of 3 cats myself for the family. Glad to see another saved.

I think the reason that some don't like them is owners don't deal with them well. My cats never go outside. Never cruise the neighborhood, don't produce more cats and are absolutely indoor only. They keep the bugs and critters at bay in the house and are nice to have around. Do this and I doubt others will complain about your indoor tiger.
