Discouraging

Post by High Desert Hunter »

Just received an email from Graf's that Alliant powders were in stock. Was excited until I saw Unique for $66/lb, this is more than sticker shock. I have powder, even have a pound or 2 of Unique, but it leaves me cold thinking about the future.

I ‘ve been using Winclean 244 and like it, 380 all the way to 44 , might not keep anything else on hand.
On the burn rate chart next to unique.
Can be had in the mid $40 range

Haven't tried 244, but I'll keep an eye out!

.
Some of it is like 22 long rifle prices. I remember buying it in the 1970s on sale for $10 a brick. Now I see it as high as $80 a brick and get upset but I also got some the other day for $50 a brick. If you account that for inflation the $50 brick stuff is cheaper that I was paying in 1975.

I don't about you but I had much the same issue with powder. I had bought a bunch of different powders in the 1970s, but then when I went off to college for 13 years living in cities and dormitories and ghetto apartments, I didn't have time to shoot much or do any reloading so the powder got used up very slowly. When I moved back to the country and started shooting more I did reload some but I had enough money then to start buying factory ammo as well so I only started running out of those 1970s powders a few years ago. The same thing happened prices were about five times as high for most of them, but that's actually less than I was paying in the 1970s if you take inflation into account.

Of course there have been a lot of ups and downs in ammunition and powder prices and even availability, depending on the election cycle.

Yes sir, they keep printing more dollars making every one in circulation worth a little bit less.
