Need a rifle whisperer
A Remington Model 8 whisperer to be exact. My circa 1912 in .25 Remington needs recoil and buffer springs, and I have the vague sense that these springs are different from the ones for Model 8s in .30, .32 and .35. Need wise counsel.
Re: Need a rifle whisperer
I'm fairly sure you're correct. I know I've seen the springs sold separately by caliber.

The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

Hi Bill,
Best wishes persueing parts for the old gal. I still come across old Model 8's, more so 81's, here in the Upper Midwest.
Just guessing that you must have to make your own brass for that caliber (??).

Re: Need a rifle whisperer
Could be that you need to find 'the right guy' that can make you the right spring. Need to figure the wire diameter, the turns( thread pitch) , ID of spring( for a mandrel) and set up on the lathe and turn away.
I've only ever laid hands on an 8, one of my classmates did a restoration of one. Neat lo guns!

Ray, I had forgotten about the Great Model 8 forum. I was active there some years back. I asked at the Remington Collectors forum.
Ray, there is a guy on eBay making Model 8 and 81 springs and I will work with him. He offers a recoil spring for the .25s, but not the buffer spring. https://www.ebay.com/usr/afsllc
Vic, believe it or not, but Grafs sells .25 Remington brass made Prvi.
