Maybe sort of a Grail gun, 1 of 200 Ruger Blackhawk

Post by Lastmohecken »

I took a little motorcycle ride and ended up at this one gunshop today, that I only frequent maybe once a month, since I retired, about 6 years ago. At first I found a Marlin .357 Guide Gun, leveraction, which I had kind of been wanting, but all of the examples I have examined lately had terrible trigger pulls, but this one had a pretty good trigger pull and I was really tempted. But then I got to talking to a couple of the salesmen there about looking for a Ruger 45colt/45acp Blackhawk and at first they said they didn't have one, but then one of them remembered that they did have one in a special displace case where they keep mostly older classic revolvers.

What they had was a gun that I had never seen anywhere before. It was a 1 of 200 Ruger Blackhawks with a 4-5/8" barrel, in 45 Colt/45acp. Since they only made 200 of them total, it's a very limited run. This gun has a blued finish, very nice, but the frame has the case-hardened finish, and it had the alloy grip frame, adjustable sights, of course. And what really set it off, was a set of Elk Horn grips, with just the right amount of bark on them. And I suspect the action had a tune job on it, maybe, maybe not, but it had a wonderful action and trigger pull.

So, it just didn't register with me at first, but I figured this was a used gun, and someone added the grips, but I was told it was a new gun, and they had actually brought it in with the grips on it. But it was kind of old stock, from 2024. So, it's a special run. Bottom line, it was kind of expensive, but I bought it anyway. I should have taken a picture or two, but I didn't. I really didn't have a good safe way to haul it on my motorcycle, so I put some money down on it to hold it for me.

But anyway, has anyone on here seen or heard of this limited run of 1 of 200 Ruger Blackhawks, like I have just described? I can't find any information on it, anywhere. It's a little fancier than I needed but man! I would never get another chance to find another one like this one. I will post some pictures when I get it out of hock.

I picked it up today. I was able to sell a 45 Colt New Vaquero, safe queen that I had laying around and seldom used, today. So that helped ease the pain of the purchase some. Luckly, I did manage to purchase it for about $300 out the door less than the suggested retail price. My gun is #45 out of 200, I didn't even notice that till I got it home. For me that's kind of cool, because it's 45 caliber and #45 or 200. I inspected the barrel, and oiled the cylinder pin and hammer pin, then loaded it up with some Blaser 200 grain Hollow Points I had, just to get a feel for the gun. It was shooting high, and I forgot to take a screwdriver with me, when I shot it, but managed to hit some steel plates by holding a little low. The sight was adjusted pretty high on the gun, so I am glad I had plenty of room to lower the rear sight. Now, I am about in the middle of the adjustment range, after cranking it down some. So, I still have plenty of adjustment up and down available to me. I am going to do some serious handloading for this gun and get it dialed in. it should be a great packing gun. I am thinking it's about as light as you can easily make a Ruger Blackhawk with big holes in the wheel and alloy frame and still keep the adjustable sights and 4-5/8" barrel.

I will try to post some pictures now.
