NOE news
Howdy All,
I talked to Al yesterday about when he thought he would have the 410 slug available, been wanting one when I first saw it and it was just after he closed, he said probably next week. Yiipee!! Looks like they are getting ready to update their catalog! He said that he has gotten back with his partner that he had when he first started. His partner left to do his own business doing jobber orders. Well the partner found out that jobbers were not that steady so they are back together. Al said the new production molds will be just as good as the old or even a little better. The slug I have been wishing to get looks like a large air gun pellet.
Anyway this is good news for me and I thought I would share it with anyone who likes NOE molds.

Great!
Im curious how those slugs shoot, I've been thinking about trying 410 for deer, even though it's not legal here.

Re: NOE news
Hadn't heard they were bringing out such a critter. I'm guessing it's geared towards smooth bore. Is it designed to load in a shot cup, or just loaded over an over powder wad? NOE's got a great rep in molds, looking forward to what you may discover with this one.

Do not know what the stack in the hull will be! I guess I will learn about it either from reading or talking to Al. I am shooting it in a Remington 1100 with smooth bore. I would guess it would work in a rifled barrel.

Re: NOE news
I have a Lyman hour glass slug mould, out of my Savage 220 bolt gun the book loads using a wad just SUCKED for accuracy. I started using a gas seal, 3 cardboard wads and a couple pieces of hull for a sabot and the accuracy came into a couple inches at 100. From a 3" hull. I need to do some more testing yet.
I can see using a wad for smooth bore and getting fair accuracy but my slug gun they just didn't have enough grab into the lands to stabilize.

Back with some results!
First of all I must say that I was WAY off on my idea of what the pressure was going to be. I am moving in uncharted territory with the components I am using!
The results were way WAY low! Will have to load up some more to be tested!!
hulls are once fired Win AA HS 2.5", Win 209 primer, BX 410 wad, 2 nitro cards, Alliant 300 MP powder, slug weighs 141.5 grs.. Using what I have, not buying other powder! I sent in two lots of 6, 17 grains and 20 grains of powder.
powder velocity fps pressure
17.0 1321 4282
20.0 1485 5340
Ballistic Products has a load with a 69 grain ball ( I think ) going 2800 fps! The hull was over half full of powder. I am going for a max pressure of 12,500 psi and then see what the velocity is.
I am thinking of sending in 3 groups to be tested! 30 , 35, 40 grains. I was shocked at how low the results were!
Update to Update
Today I sent in 3 groups of six, 30 grs, 35 grs and 40 grs!
Will post results when I get them back!

Re: NOE news
I tried some of those BP light game slugs. I did not go max charge, the few I shot were not terribly accurate ( being a round ball out of a smooth bore I didn't think they would be) .

Re: NOE news
This slug is not designed to fit into a wad! I have the slug sitting on a nitro card and what ever components below to make the stack height right. Using a fold crimp! Got three more groups going to Precision Reloading Will post results when I get them! Once I get a good load then I will do accuracy testing.

Re: NOE news
Howdy,
Got the test results back from Precision Reloading! I sent in 3 groups of six shells to be tested, 30, 35 and 40 grains of 300 MP powder. After my first results of 20 grains producing only 5K + change of pressure I jumped to start with 30 for this test. The 35 grains gave an average pressure of 15658 psi and 40 grains higher, over SAAMI limits, so I will only show the 30 grain results.
30 grains 300 MP
Win. AA HS hull
Win. 209 primer
BX410 wad
1/4" felt to fill shot cup
1 over shot card under slug
142 grain slug
Velocity 2067
9680 psi
This gives me information that I feel comfortable with tweaking the load!

Re: NOE news
142 grains of lead doing 2000+fps is sneaking up to 30-30 performance- nothing to sneeze at!
That will certainly kill deer.

Re: NOE news
Yes I too figured out to not put the Lyman slug into a wad.
Don't remember what powder I'm using but I'm putting a gas seal, 3 or 4 card wads and cutting shotshell hulls for a sabot around the slug and roll crimping my 20ga 3" hulls for use in a Savage 220. This load is about 2" 3 shot groups at 100 yards. Maybe a skootch bigger but minute of deer for sure. Sadly the POA is POI is quite different than the Remington Acutip that are 5 bucks a pop and I'm reluctant to change my scope for these handloads!
