You guys in AZ

Post by 6pt-sika »

You guys in AZ have my utmost sympathy . I’m sitting in the Phoenix airport and it’s 105 degrees outside in early may . That’s certainly not for me .

Wife and I winter in Yuma, we get down there the last week in October and come home the last week in April. Even then we get a few 100 degree days. Can't imagine living down there in the summer.

I almost took a job in Alamagordo NM, in April it was 90+° when I went for an interview.
Granted its a very different type of heat but I'm not sure I could tolerate it every day.
Of course I'm the guy praying for snow come July!

It was a warm one today, Tucson hit 103 briefly after lunch but it's supposed to taper off for the rest of the week. Just an early reminder of what's to come.

Yep, just like Up Nort' there's a few months of the year where you have to hunker down indoors, it's just on the opposite side of the calendar.

The hot time of year is for early risers. Shoot, bike, walk - whatever it is do it early and then get indoors before the burning ball of hydrogen starts dessicating everything.

I miss Alamogordo, but confess it is a couple of degrees cooler here on the Continental Divide. Folks make fun of the “dry heat” out here in the desert, but I will happily take 100 F and 7 percent humidity while the rest of you are dripping wet at 80 with 80 percent. No thank you!

We did have some warm days, then it cooled off and it snowed in the mountains and a cold rain here in the basin. Anything you'd like to know about the area please don't hesitate to ask.

Dave, I went to school in Trinidad CO, spent my summers in south Lake Tahoe. I'm a sage brush rat at heart! I've also spent time in Clovis, Craig CO, Carson City NV.

I'm from Eastern Oregon, so sagebrush is quite familiar! Lived in Utah before the Air Force brought me here 22 years ago.

I have visited dry areas. Grew up about dead center of where the Dustbowl of the 1930s happened. Dry heat is a bit more tolerable because your sweat evaporates and cools you off. My time in Florida was swamp training in the Summer. Did Winter training in Wisconsin. Spent a year ½ mile south of the 38th parallel in Korea. Hot, Cold, Wet, repeat.
I prefer moderately dry.

I grew up along the coast in So Cal... the mean average temperature is 70ºF with fairly low humidity... but the temp swings are limited to 30+ degrees for just days at a time... anytime it's really humid is when it's raining. In my teens the family traveled out to the Colorado River in the Earp, CA area a couple times a month to waterski, year 'round. I've seen it hit 125ºF in the shade out there. So hot on the asphalt that it oozed between your toes if you were foolish enough to go barefoot. If you skied more'n ½ a mile, your suit would dry off, and in falling the water would be a welcome relief. Our boat was white, upholstery was mostly white with orange inserts on seat & back, didn't matter, in the summer, a towel was needed to keep the genuine naugahyde from burnin' ya! You had to splash water on the steering wheel to cool it off enough to touch. And, yep, that's a Hemi. The earlier 354 cubic inch version, replaced the following year with a 392.

According to the note on the back, this was in April '65, the water was COLD, but the air temps were in the 80s!

Where did you hunt those Naugas to skin them and use their hide on that seat?
