Anyone have Cartridges of the World 17th edition?

Post by Crazy Horse »

I talked to a guy at Buffalo Arms, and he told me it listed handloads for the 50-95 lever action, but they didn't have the book in stock. I hate to spend $40 to find out it does not. If anyone has this book, can you take a look for me?

I have the 10th addition and it does have the 50/95 in it. I started to post a screenshot of it, but then I realized that I would be violating the reproducing laws for the book. So, I am hesitant to post a screen shot.

It would just be the same as already posted above, so no reason to. I have the 9th edition and it's the same as already posted.

Thanks guys. It sounds like they all list the same IMR 4198 loads.

Yep, looks like they used to load a 285 grain bullet with 26 grains of 4198 for 1420 feet per second
and a 350 with 23 grains for 1350 feet per second.
Winchester had a factory load at one time, with a 300 grain bullet going 1557 feet per second.

Those loads were pretty good for the time.

I have the 17th, and yes, those are still the two loads listed.

4198 is my favorite powder for all my old single shot cartridges I reload. Just one of the finest BP alternatives ever made. I use either IMR or Hodgdon equally as Hodgdon owns both names and their tech told me the powders are identical.
