Re: .303 British Eye Candy.....
That's the kind of question I often ask at 'modern art' museums...
At least this double-rifle LOOKS nice (versus 90% of abstract modern art); but if it costs $43k, it would have to replace in function and form ALL the guns in my possession put together. Not sure any single firearms could do that...!

If you want to know how practical a .303 double is in Africa, find a copy of Edouard Foa's "After Big Game in Central Africa," published in 1899. It's a fabulous read about this Frenchman's epic explorations and hunts, and while he had larger bore rifles for the dangerous stuff, it is remarkable how useful that .303 double was in his capable hands against some very large beasts.
Re: .303 British Eye Candy.....
Never been a great fan of the 303 Brit cartridge or the SMLE for that matter but a 303 in an H&H double would be just fine with me .

If the link works, it is the book cited above. Rather difficult to ken with that site's reader/format though.Bill in Oregon wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2026 8:37 pm If you want to know how practical a .303 double is in Africa, find a copy of Edouard Foa's "After Big Game in Central Africa," published in 1899. If the rest is as good as the first chapter on arms, ammunition and camp gear, then it is going to be a most satisfactory read. Thanks billy, er, pardon wilhelm.....

WOW, Great looking rifle, but not my cup of tea. While I like the .303 Rd and rifles as much as I break things would not even consider a rifle like that.
It is not the critic who counts

.45, if reading Foa on the 'puter doesn't set well, the book is one of those in the Capstick Library and easily available used.

Re: .303 British Eye Candy.....
That’s a beautiful rifle and it looks like it was made for use in the field. A pretty tool.
Re: .303 British Eye Candy.....
That rifle is a historic monument of times past when the those with money ordered firearms that were works of art to be admired by their wealthy associates. I look at the craftsmanship with admiration and respect for the people who actually built the rifle. I'll never have such a piece, (Unless some long lost relative wanted to will me one!), but I am glad that some survived so we can admire the work of real artisans. WOW!

Re: .303 British Eye Candy.....
I wish We could ALL Know the rest of the story.....Who ordered it, and How it was used. In My Life of looking at pic's of High End Firearms I have never seen a SxS with the top tang extending down the grip and up on top of the comb.......Just for looks? OR to strengthen the weakest part of the Stock............?
Re: .303 British Eye Candy.....
Several years ago, Cabela's had a new Ruger #1 chambered in .303. It's in my vault. (P.S., it shoots great!)

So.....I got on the Holland & Holland website. This Fine Rifle fit's in their serial numbers. And I bet If You had the $$$ it could be sent back for a cleaning and inspection. Try that with most other Firearms from 1903..........Just a lottery ticket Away..............................................
