Re: Shoot what you are used to and live with.
I keep up with those guys on the tube. I usually always enjoy watching them. Bryan is a wealth of knowledge for sure. One thing in this video that needed a little more clarification was the comment by Bryan, however: regarding the single action being fastest for the first shot. It is the fastest when using an open carry fast draw holster, we have all seen how quick that can be. But not from concealment. I do think that needed said or demonstrated otherwise. Because I have experimented a lot with CCW including the singleaction and I just have never found a holster that worked for CCW, that I draw and fire a singleaction as fast as I can a 1911 from concealment.
But I agree with them, 100% on the leveractions especially. And I especially agree with Brian on the bigger handgun calibers.
Comments that I really liked in this video, referred to the practice of carrying a gun all of the time, and how a small gun was so much easier to carry, until that moment comes when you really need it to save your live, then at that moment, you will wish you were carrying a bigger gun. I had that happen to me, just the other night, when I was out on my farm by myself after dark, carrying a .357 mag revolver, which common sense tells me is all I need, and my light landed on something that turned out to be nothing, but spooked me a little bit for several seconds, and I thought right then, that I wished that I was carrying one of my 44 mags instead of the .357. Funny how thoughts like that race through your mind, when you suddenly feel vulnerable.

You turned me onto these guys via this forum ---- i have been digesting their content a little at a time ever since --- so much more relatable than all the "tactical " you tubers
just enough traditional firearms vs modern stuff to tickle my fancy --- i recognize the old man's name - he has been a gun writer for years --- i used to soak up all those old magazines on breaks when i had a factory job 2 decades ago --- but i like the input of the kids' too (they look like they're 30-40 years old to be fair lol )

That second video is pretty good too. That one young guy on the right, who like the old 3 screw 357 Blackhawk, That's a favorite of mine. I like for the same reason he does. the lighter alloy frame, makes it a little lighter to carry. But it's still very shootable.

They make a lot of sense. I have a gun I take to the range, or when handgun hunting, but what I carry almost all the time is what I reach for when I hear the dogs bark at night. It has been shot enough that I know it and trust it.

I’ve gotten pretty used to my USFA single action and wouldn’t hesitate to grab it for anything. I generally wear it all weekend. (My Colt is still in El Paso with Paul Persinger).
It’s starting to get a little finish wear and looks better all the time.

And I have a couple of .45 Colt leverguns that I often have with me.
This combination is really useful.

I'd tell you how smart those choices are, except that might just be a reflection of my confirmation bias. While I love my 1873 Short Rifle and Colt SAA, and usually carry them around the farm, when going farther afield I tend to carry my Combat Commander & have the .30-30 Trapper in the truck...

I laughed during the second video when Brian said that if you start with 5" 1911 you'll probably come back to it after trying everything else. That was certainly the case for me.
Re: Shoot what you are used to and live with.
I have shot a few 1911 style handguns, and a few Army issue Colt manufactured ones. The 1911 design fits my hand and shoots well for me. He seems to be on target in my case, too.

I really enjoy watching their channel. If you think about it, their choices are not just generational but situational. Two of the boys work in the city and their choices reflect that. Bryan and his son are still full time ranchers, and so their choices reflect that, also. But notice there is a lot of good natured ribbing, but they all respect the others choices. There needs to be more of that in the gun community as a whole.

Re: Shoot what you are used to and live with.
I could not agree more. City vs Country does change a few variables, and that affects my choices compared to others. I am suburban city in Texas. Not much need for long distance shooting near me. A 1911 style is more in line with daily potential for me than a levergun would be.Steve in MO wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 11:40 am I really enjoy watching their channel. AND, yes we need more good natured interaction with others in our community.
