Custom Henry Finished, Buckhamer Finished!

Post by Lastmohecken »

I had mentioned it before on here, but here it is, just finished. The gunsmith just sent me a picture of the finished rifle. He still has test fire it, before mailing it back to me.
Mods, I had done:
New Recoil Pad, and length of pull adjusted.
Trigger Job, and trigger re-contour, and re-finish, trigger was pretty bad before, now it sets at slightly over 3 lbs
Barrel shortened an inch or so, and original mag tube, eliminated, and new Winchester half mag installed
I also had it threaded for a silencer, and nice thread cap, made for it.

So, here's a picture, I am kind of excited to get it back. I hope it shoots as good as it looks.

Me too! It didn't shoot that good with the factory ammo, before. One of reasons, I had it modified. I didn't like the Henry mag tube and suspected it of giving off poor barrel harmonics.
And it was muzzle heavy for me, more than I liked was another reason. I was going to do just a button magazine but figured out that I really wanted a little more capacity, than that alteration would have allowed. So, I chose the half mag configuration.
I added the threaded barrel option as an afterthought, don't know if I will get a silencer for it or not, but at least I have the option.

That's a mighty handsome Henry you have there and in a very interesting caliber! I am sucker for a 3/4 magazine on a lever gun.

Nice look’n rifle , I don’t like the LOP on my single shot either , 14” is ok on a shotgun , but not on a rifle.

Thanks, Bill
Yeah, I kind of liked the idea of a straight wall 35 caliber for our new Alternative Straight wall deer season, here in Arkansas. So, I ended up buying this rifle, a year or so, ago.
I love the 3/4 Magazine, also. The original magazine ran all of the way to the end of the barrel and was quite heavy, with the double wall sleeve loading design.

I agree 100% on that. 14" is barley tolerable for me in shirt sleeves, but by the time, I add a heavy coat, coveralls, It's just too long for comfortable and fast lever action work, for me.

He called "Country Custom Metals" His name is Paul Hampton out of Nevada. I can't remember the town, right now.
You can also find him on Facebook. I have seen pictures of some of his other work. All of it looks to be very nice work.

Yes sir, I will be following up on a range report. I have 3 different factory loads that I want to try, but I need to get some dies and solid reloading information for this round.

I have six rifles that have half mags....that Henry should be a decent weight and not feel like a boat anchor. the Buckhammer is legal to Hunt with in Ohio. Now I'm interested,

I had to buy a couple of spring kits for some of my Smith and Wesson revolvers, so to round up for free shipping, I went ahead and purchased a set of RCBS dies for the Buckhammer. So, If I would get off of my butt and clean up the mess in my reloading room, I should be just about in business to handload some rounds for this gun.
