Emotional Support Dogs.....
Recently we went to a very crowded tourist trap type destination that used to be an exclusive yacht club & marina that finally had to open to the general public as its wealthy members lapsed into history. It's a happening place as they say. Thousands visit it on weekends and holidays.
There were a few disabled owner's legitimate service dogs but also scores of emotional support dogs. We witnessed a disturbance in a restaurant, in fact we were sitting right amongst it all. Some diners, including a very loudly agitated autistic child objected to the presence of a comfort dog. The whole scene was soon sorted out by the management & wait staff and a local pastor.
One interesting conversation we could not help but overhear, the minister of the gospel asked the dog's owner, "does that young lady with emotional issues that was so troubled by your dog have the right to a support animal ?"
To which the man replied indignantly, "everyone in this place has the right to have one !"
The preacher smiled and commented, "this place is nigh-on full to bursting and if everyone has the right and practiced it, there would be a couple of hundred folk & their pets. Would that situation be tenably practical ?"

Re: Emotional Support Dogs.....
It is ridiculous that "emotional support" dogs are allowed in ANY public place. I silently curse people who bring them into grocery stores and a few other places. If you need emotional support go see your shrink.

.
It’s a younger generation thing.
Kinda sad.
I get requests to ‘approve’ of them often; most are due to apartments tired of pet damage that irresponsible tenants won’t ever pay for.
Many tmes the little animals are stressed and neurotic themselves - like the person is actually the ‘support person’ for the dog/cat.
We have messed up a couple generations now with materialism and lack of responsibility - thus the result is there are more ‘liberals’.

I’ve seen plenty of people older than me with these crutch dogs and I’m 55. I personally think most of it is a fraudulent way to take a pet anywhere. I grew up with dogs but we didn’t shop and dine with them. They stayed home unless they were going to to hunt or to the vet

Re: Emotional Support Dogs.....
There are some places in the UK where any type of Dog is unwelcome thanks to our ever growing population of Muslims, if the situation continues I may require a emotional support dog of my own preferably one with very large canines.

Very well-behaved dogs in public places don't bother me. It's the loud, obnoxious people and their ill-behaved kids that suck.

Re: Emotional Support Dogs.....
The problem is that some dogs are not "well-behaved". After watching, several times, dogs lift their leg on the lower shelves at the grocery store I hesitate to buy anything from that shelf. Then of course there are those that insist on letting their dog of questionable cleanliness ride in the shopping carts. Yes, I know kids ride in them to, but at least children usually have their excretement organs covered with clothing.

Incredible how many things have gone down the toilet in the past couple of decades; accountability, decency, morality, formality and so many others. The way people dress these days amazes me; people have no shame.

Re: Emotional Support Dogs.....
+ infinity.
It's the idea that everyone is entitled and deserves to be catered to. When I was growing up it was unheard of to be like that. It was so rare that anyone not being considerate of others ended up being alone in their misery because no one would have anything to do with them.
We need to bring that back.

Fortunately, we don't have many in our Pharmacy. We have a drive thru, and a bunch of dogs know we hand out milk bone treats.

Re: Emotional Support Dogs.....
I don't have a problam with the dogs; they usually seem pretty well behaved. My problem is with the entitled jerks who wander around with them, desperately searching for someone to admire or pet their dogs.
