The vast bulk of my 45 Colt brass is Starline, followed closely with both Winchester & R-P brands well represented. Over the course of 40 years of cowboy action shooting, I've had several off brands handed to me after a stage. I've seen a couple headstamps that read either 45 LC or 45 L Colt. Even PMC (which I'm told is Korean in origin), is marked 45 Colt, (no longer available). Then there's this [urlhttps://americanreloading.com/collections/unprimed-brass/products/45-long-colt-x-treme-unprimed-brass-200ct]X-Treme 45 Long Colt[/url] brass stamped 45 LC. I've found a couple of others over the years... some good, others not so much.
Thanks Jim... I went back and corrected in my post... I thought I checked it... but... must not have.
Bill in Oregon wrote: ↑Thu Feb 19, 2026 9:45 amThe confusion persists. Go to an online seller like Kygunco and filter by caliber and you might see a few handguns offered in .45 Colt and a whole bunch in .45 Long Colt. For example, a search by caliber under revolvers at Bud's lists 26 in .45 Colt and 115 in .45 Long Colt. Kinda goofy after all these years, ya think?
The firearms manufacturers aren't any help either... If the ten 45 Colt firearms I have they're marked in several ways. Obviously, my 2 Colt SAAs are simply marked "Single Action Army .45", My Rossi Short Rifle, imported by EMF is marked ".45 Colt". My two Uberti 1873 rifles are marked differently. One (1986 production) simply sez "cal. 45". The other, a 2014 product reads ".45 Colt". The Miroku 1885 also sez ".45 Colt", as does the Marlin 1894 with the Cowboy Competition barrel. The two EMF "Hartford Model" revolvers are made by two different manufacturers, and each reads differently, the 1st one a 1992 ASM is marked on the top of the barrel ".45 Colt", while the Uberti version of the same model is marked on the left side of the barrel just like a Colt SAA. I also have a Uberti 1860 rifle, but it's off at the gunsmith getting bobbed into a carbine version with an 18" bbl. and my pictures don't show enough detail to say for sure...
